Maybe I'm off base here, but to pull off 80% comp with decent HAM on my primary resources I'm experimenting on all three bars of the layer. With the upcoming path that sounds like it's not going to work quite as well.
Instead of trying to keep up the current runs of kinetic layered stuff and either have an enormously heavy suit or one whose kinetic special protection is locked in at a value lower than 80%, why not switch to triple electrical layers? No one really cares about electrical protection since LLC's are so horribly inaccurate in PvP, so there would be no need to worry about experimenting on the special protection of the layer. In my case, that would free up one or two skill points for use on either the base or the HAM. The HAM wouldn't be too horrible, and I could still hit 60% on the base resists, allowing everything (including kinetic) to be sliced up to 80% without an exceptional slice.
I dunno. I may just start making low priced unlayered comp if the changes go live. Hooray for single-line experimentation!

You are quite right my friend. With 3 layered electrical composite, all you would have to do is experiment the base bar to its max. Tried this last night on Wanderhome and i finished up with 80% electrical and 63% base (my ore is crap). Get a 30% effective slice and you have yourself 80% all around. Not a bad way to go and still might be able to get a post patch 80% suit.

Hmm, why not just do the same with stun layers instead? Just work on base and HAM, and consider anything left over for stun resist as a bonus? Unlike the "worthless" electricity protection, you would at least get a little bit of somewhat useful stun resist from this.

I guess you could do that as well. Stun protection would be minimal, but it would at least give the benefit of AP1.

I made a couple suits using Rancor Hides with Heat, Cold, and stun layers.
