Thread: Feasible to go Master AS?
Master Armorsmith
Master Merchant
Driod Engineer: x/x/x/3 (to make my own bh driods)
Well, maybe not the last bit there.
Just like what was said above, it takes a good deal of patience gathering resources, btu it pays off. In the mean time, try to focus one one type of armor to sell for money as you bolster your resources. If you can manage to cap one type unlayered, you will have no problems selling. Also, as a side not, if you ever plan on making wookiee armor, you need fieldwear 3 from tailor for armor paddings.
Good luck!
I highly recommend using this tool to see the best resources. Don't forget to go check some resources yourself and contribute updates to swgcraft.com
I came into the AS scene after there were some pretty well-established crafters on the galaxy already, and had no problems making some sales. Crafters come and go, many more players come and go that need armor. Especially if you have the help of your guild, you can often find some sweet deals on good resources and boost your armor stats that way. I haven't managed the really elite stuff I see on my server somtimes, but I do hit 7-7.5k primary stat armors on Recon and Assault. I haven't managed battle yet, since the advanced cores take Nabooian Bristley, which hasn't had a decent spawn in ages on Ahazi.
the other thing I do to get a few credits on the side and keep the business running is to get the armor cores I or my friends loot off their random mobs that they fight. The stats can be crap, but they are cores all ready to go. I usually sell them for low prices for newer or down-on-their-luck players.

There is also a large market for the not "perfect" armor. Dont stress hitting the max, just do what you can. and try not to burn up uber resources with crap ones as you will kick yourself later.

Do what you can with whatever you have in abundance of. Save the rare/uber stuff (and 30K deeds) for later when you need it.
Also, when first starting out, you will constantly be upgrading your armor with newer resources, so never make more than you can sell.

Ok, after playing this game for 1 year now, strictly as a Combat toon, I figured it was time to get an alt and give crafting a try. Since I already had a few armorsmith and artisan cas, I figured I would go with the following template:
Master Artisan
Master Armorsmith
Master Merchant
Driod Engineer: x/x/x/3 (to make my own bh driods)
Tailor: x/2/x/x (to make my own Reinforced Fiber Panels)
Plus once I got there, pick up a few lines in FS for Crafting and Surveying.
Well, I know a few crafters who basically told me I was afool to try and go into Armorsmith or Weaponsmith for that matter, as I will never be able to compete with the crafters who have been around for quite some time and have all of the long out of shift uber resources that I would need to make anything worth while. Or else I would need a few 100 million to buy every single 30k Free Resource kit I could get my hands on.
Well, the option of buying up all the resource kits ain't gonna happen. I have spent a lot of time and money building a nice collection of loot that I will never sell, so I only have like 40-50 million now. While I know I wouldn't be able to jump into crafting and be proffitable right away, as I know I will probally be spending a few months just collecting some decent resources before I even start, I just want to have some fun and break even or make a little profit.
So really my question is:
With todays long time crafters having the market of product and resources to craft it with, am I getting in over my head here? Do I even stand a chance?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I started collecting resources that I needed for AS early in my career with Artisian Eng 3. As soon as I was able to create Personal Extractors I was collecting what I can in resources needed for AS, also some diligent vendor searches and you can get the best resources possible.
