Thread: looted cores... what are these for and are they any good?
The cores that are dropping are decent but but most of them are not high enough for an armorsmith to hit the cap with. Like with adv recon cores you need at the very least 6600 energy 4600 kinetic to hit the cap of 7000e 5000k in the final combine. So whatever cores you looted just add 400 to them and thats what your piece will be unlayered.
You wouldnt use these if you were looking to get health enhanced armor since you need to put your enhancers in the segments if you want +50 per piece to hit +350 total and of course with looted cores you couldnt do that.

ah... so.. .since those cores are more than 6k... add the 400k... they will be capped unlayered?
and if I getan armorsmith to layer them i can get a fully capped armor... without spending any resources on the unlayered part of the armor?
then these are good? for as long as you can use capped layers?
An armorsmith can't do ANYTHING to modify your cores. Layers go in to segments, segments go into cores. So you can't layer armor as the final appearance stage.
Bottom line is that a looted core can never exceed the protection of a crafted core. Nor can it be layered or enhanced. They can make cheap and fairly decent armor but nothing "uber" (as if there was any uber armor left in the game).
