Howdy, I'm currently grinding a new character up the armorsmith tree. Being an entirely new character, I don't have stockpiles of high quality resources to make high resist armor. Actually I have no resource stockpiled. But I see that as a potential opportunity...
I do honestly believe the combat upgrade will change the nature of buffs and encumberance. Encumberance is virtually assured as it has been specifically mentioned in what little information has been given. If so, making the highest resist armor possible may not be a good strategy for post CU. Further, stockpiling resources that focus on OQ/SR over OQ/MA may mean having a stockpile of the wrong resources if/when the changes come.
Going by my playstyle, I'm not afraid of taking some of the brunt from the hits. I'm not trying to solo rancors and have gone out general hunting with no armor because most of the armor I've found has too much encumberance and would require buffs to feasibly wear while soloing (HAM regen becoming too low, special attacks cost becoming too high, ect.). So how is the current market for lower encumberance armors without maxed resists?
Most of the threads here all seem to focus on maxing the resists on armors, with leftover experimental points going into reducing HAM costs. So it gives the impression that nobody is really giving much consideration to making lighter armors with less resists.

No doubt it will be but I think you'll have to wait a year to reap the benefits of this strategy. To make a living in the mean time you might want to consider padded as most people are only intrested in the look you can concentrate on just making it light. You might also want to consider making kaash hunting armor. Now the required resources are a pain but if you can gather them in bulk and churn out 80% kin kaash at a cheap price wookies will love you. Lots of organics though so if you do this you'll want some scout. Good luck.

At the moment the best option is still to get the best OQ/SR for the segments and final, but get OQ/MA for the layers.... If you can get very very light layers it will help alot...

currently with buffs so powerful and regularly available that encumberance is secondary to resistances. Though It may change in teh future, but currently as things are most people don't mind how heavy the armor is.

That's kinda the point. Based on the information we have, it's not a question of 'may'. But more a question of 'how much'. You prolly know the answer, being the correspondent and having access to the CU docs (I think). But I'm not gonna try pulling the answers out of you.
But for someone in my position, it does leave me with an interesting dilemna.

i too have thought of this, but am just undecided, i was thinking of doing 80% Kinetic, very low base which in turn will produce very low ham, perfect for grinders against melee mobs.. some people say that this is just expensive ubese.. but this will last 2x / 3x longer perhaps more... besides... i sell my 80% kin armour at the same price some AS's are selling their ubese.. There is more to the game than wealth

You end up using moreresources making light-weight kinetic layers.... you can make medium weight grind comp with two kin layers though.....

I regularly sell out of my 80% kinetic 66% base low ham comp so there is a market for that type of armor. It's one of the few types of comp where the encumbrance sliced sells as well as the effectiveness sliced stuff.

i've been putting out some grindwear composite where i go for higher condition as opposed to lower ham. these pieces end up being 80% kinetic and around 66% base, with 42-43k condition. the ham isn't all that outrageous either, comparitive to stun armor (900/800/900) or so. i came to the conclusion that most people are only using the 4 piece cheater suits anyways, so the ham is even less relevant. and at the rate a heavy grinder goes through composite, the extra 6 or 7k condition can save them from having to buy armor as often.

Actually- If you went and maxed out HAM (before it stops for condition) it only is 200 points (if even that) lower. You may get 70 kinetic out of it. I tried this a few months back and ended up with 1230ish HAM and before I left the game hit 1370 HAM suits.
IMO your better off pushing the condition. If someone is dead set on low HAM go for ubese.
