First, I have read the FAQ! Now for the questions. Is it feasible to make and sell only 'newbie' armours? I want to sell high quality bone, mabari, chitin, and tantel armours, but I also want to support myself doing so. This feasible?

Let's just say you won't get rich off of it. But you could make a modest living, esp if those noobs you supply the armor to hunt the organics for you.

I'm willing to say that you could do well making the 'newbie' armors, especially if you focus on quality and produce some really nice stuff. Don't expect buckets of cash (especially at first), but I honestly think somebody could do well at this if they gave it a good try.

There is a definite niche for making these almost forgotten armors as they are usually the 'stepping stones' to Ubese and Composite. Once smiths get the schematics for the higher level armors, they rarely if ever look back.

I get requests for this stuff all the time and I would love to make them, but I simply don't have room to warehouse the resources and my plate is pretty full already with Ubese and Comp. Also, you may want to specialize in Padded as your top-end armor. On my server there are only a few smiths that make good Padded, and this stuff seems to be in relatively high demand. A smith could make a nice living on my server selling nothing but custom Padded.

Good luck!

depends on the resources used and how you aquire them IMO . If your grinding your way up sure make what you can and go from there .

If you are master AS and using hides that are great in sr/oq to get the lower end stuff to max lvls , then you will find out like the rest of us it's not worth the pay-out .

Most of the lower level armors (padded in particular) require large amounts of hide and bones. Much more than comp or ubese. Thats one reason smiths don't make them, they cost the smith more to make resource-wise than comp or ubese and you can't sell them for nearly as much.

All I can say is good luck. The noobs will love you but it will be tough.

I think its a great way to start. Not because of the money, cuz your not going to make a ton. More importantly because you are going to learn the craft as you progress.

I have to admit, I was a miner before I took up armorsmith. I had plenty of dough and harvs to get the best (well obviously not all the best) resources to begin with. That being said my learning curve was still pretty steep even at the master level.

After about 3 months or so I feel I am getting the hang of it. My armor sells very well, but im definately not on par with the older masters and im not afraid to admit that.

Bottom line, I really enjoy my craft and im sure the best armorsmiths out there do as well.

P.S. Rofak I remember flaming the hell out of ya in a merchent nerf post u made. Lol I think everyone did. Anyway...the best of luck to ya!

@ Govo hehe, no prob. Hope you like the new levels, a bit higher. I think that was the intended target all along, they just wanted to gain some support for themselves...

@ Everyone else... thanks for the great advice. I have found a master armoursmith on my new galaxy, whom, like most, makes only composite and ubese. He has agreed to support my grind to novice if I will place harvesters for him and then allow me to place a vendor in his shop!

I made my first 20 million on MABERI ALONE. Master level maberi is a truly untapped market. The only reason I left maberi first go around, was because I ran out of bronzium iron. It is NOT heavy on the resources. I made the same 40 cpu on it that I made on ubese. ( Little over 20k a suit, unenhanced 50k a suit enhanced). I didn't stay stocked for more than 12 hours. The secrets are pretty basic.

1) ADVERTISE. Hiding your vendors in the basement on Talus is a no no

2) Put color in the title. People don't want to browse through 500 pieces of armor, checking each one, to get the color they want. Red/Black, and Imperial Purple/ Black were my 2 best sellers.

3) Put the kinetic % in the title. Heat sells too, but people want kinetic ( base).

4) Buy cheap voritor scales and krayt scales ( I got mine for 1k or less). They take the energy vuln out of maberi, and people like that!

5) Point out the benefits ( educate your customers). When they realize the armor costs about the same as getting a buff session, and is disposable, easy on the hams, good looking, different, and works to the level of most things they hunt, they buy. Tell them to save the composite for the Janta/rancor tanking missions. Riflemen don't need composite, neither do medics who group.

6) Tantel sells really really well, for energy. Add energy layers to it. If you can get some sweet enhancers, go for max base. A good slice will make some fine stun armor. Most of what I sold was energy enhanced ( cheap, and over 50% energy with decent ( not great) materials). Good for low-mid level faction grinding. Did I mention cheap and good looking and different??? With the current set up concerning armor holes, they only need gloves to complete a suit ( may I suggest enhanced maberi gloves, or energy layered ubese??)

7) Chitin. People like it, it has less ham cost than ubese with nearly as good stats, BUT..... heavy heavy organic resource cost. If you like to hunt, this will be easy to make then.

8) Padded. See chitin. If you like to hunt blah blah blah. However!!! People will buy it for looks only. If you have garbage wooly laying around, run with it!!

I makemore moneyevery single day as a 7-pt Armorsmith then I ever have as amaster architectjust by selling Chitin and Mabari. Sure aBER 13 goes for 150K, but man, I never have the resources to makeone, and that is a huge factor!!! I really like the low level armors because they seem to be more of a challenge to me. Everyone has composite figured out and so getting amazing stats really isn't that amazing. How many people have Chitin figured out? Especially with only 7 experimentation points!!!

I go to Mos Eisley and sell it in person to people there- ususally fairly new players. I even make it, using the *public crafting station*, while people wait-- they pick the colors, they even pick how to manipulate the sats. We get to talking- they askquestions, they ask for training (heh, I'm maxed on AP pts.), they refer their friends, and think of you as their new friend.A week later once they know the game a bit more, they come back for more and/orbetter armor- they ask if I know a weaponsmith, or a doctor, etc, etc. My friends love all the referrals I give them. If your guild recruits (mine doesn't) or your city needs to expand (mine does!), then this is the way to do it!

One more thing-- use the bazaar. 25 pieces (the max you can put up) of Chitin/mabari go within 10 hours for me. I can barely keep up. It's a lot of fun to make armor for newbs. I get to talk to people, and make good money. I honestly don't know any non-master that makes as much money in as little time as I do, not even solo-grouping.

Yes it is an untapped market. Yes it is fun to do. Yes you can make money. Yes you will meet a lot of people. Is newbie armor a waste of time?? Absolutely not!
