I am considering doing Armorsmith but don't want to grind up to Master to be of any use. Is there a market out there for a novice Armorsmith - can I legitimately make lower level armor and work my way up or am I kidding myself - and just bit the bullet and grind for a few days?
See I didn't grind doc and I learned alot about making meds etc as I played the toon.

you can make the lesser armors but they will be crap without the experimentation and layers.

without some extra experimentation points your products will suck and will hardly sell for anything but little money ... you'd probably make more money from selling the resources. there should be a market for your low-level armor as soon as you can experiment on it a little and if you start to throw in some layers, you probably will be able to sell them to a decent amount of people ... before you hit master you'll hardly get rich though.

There's actually a descent market for lower-level smiths. Not for mabari though. You can make Chitin suits and throw them on the bazaar. That's how I did it the first time. The first time that I mastered armorsmith I mixed it with grinding, an hour or so of AUKs here and there, but for the most part just made armor.
I'd suggest getting chitin right away, and then getting to experimentation 4 before you work up the armor tree. I had fun watching my chitin set's percentages go up on each level, so it kept me from getting bored with the experimentation line. You're right about learning a lot too. Every armor has it's purpose (at least it did before buffs were well kown), and you'll learn about the usage as you go up in skill.
You'll have to use the bazaar until you get a bit higher, and I would go to a newbie city as a newbie armorsmith. Mos Eisley is full of noobs in my server, so I would recommend that naritus novice armorsmiths go there to sell low-level armor.

I agree that you should sell your low-level armor in newbie cities, as thats what I did and that helped me a lot to pay for my harvesters. going to chitin and then experimentation is certainly a good thing, though I found that it is also possible to keep pushing out decent (for your skill level that is) mabari sets to the bazaar and sell them fast and for good money. thats ofc only possible if you do that in a newbie city that is really busy and has not many other Novice Armorsmiths trying to sell their low-level suits on the bazaar.
apart from that I think that Chitin just looks ugly

Also, i've heard they implemented some new crafting quests, with increased experience points (not sure if they are AS specific or what however...

Do what you can to get to 3/0/0/4 armorsmith. At this point you can make Ubese with seven experimentation points. If you can get a decent bit of funds together, try and find a total of +5 to armor experimentation - with Techniques IV and +5 armor experimentation, you'll have eight points to work with.
At 3/0/0/4 armorsmith and eight points, you'll be able to make some decent Ubese if your resources are good. From there, get to 4/1/0/4 and make kinetic layered advanced Ubese. You should be able to get into the high 60's or low 70's on kinetic.
From there, you'll be making Ubese by hand for a long time. That's the way I did it. You'll be sick of Ubese by the time you master. I took custom orders for padded armor to break up the hand-made Ubese monotony. This will buy you time to gather resources for composite and work on extra experimentation points. When I finally mastered I had everything I needed for composite that sold very well, and extra experimentation point, a small customer base, and a few million in the bank (as opposed to all of the people who go broke grinding).
