Been fiddling with armor of late (most of the good minerals are shared by both weapons and armor) - and have been attempting to make a simple PvE suit of 80 kinetic - 60-something base.

I am a 10 point smith, and when I juggled all the numbers using2 kinetic layers of 3%base and 8% kinetic i wound up with a nice servicablecomposite segment of 23%base and 17% kinetic....the resultant suit was 75%kinetic and 58%base.

I would like to increase the base to above 60 - yet the experiments I have run with segments have gone DOWN in base % not up.

I gave up some HAM and increased the base segment to 4% - using the same kinetic layers yielded a 75%kinetic 53% base.

I was puzzled as a Big Dawg, and will be working on it tonight to see what I can figure out ... but I thought I might throw myself on the mercy of my peers and have you offer some sage wisdom.

I focused my materials around the SR/OQ combination, is there something that I am missing?

Many thanks,

with doctor buffs, ent buffs, and chef foods easily available, encumberances don't matter much anymore to the majority of people. And those that do can get a good encumberance slice from a smuggler and if they're lucky they'll get a good amount of the encumberances reduced.

if you want to get 80 kin 60+ base you will need to use three layers. It's possible with two, but not easy, especially as only a 10 point smith.

The standard procedure for 80kin armor is three kin segments, putting everything into base. If you're using good materials you'll hit 80 kin piece of cake. Tho you might have to put one point into kinetic just to make sure, as nobody seems to want to buy even 79% kinetic base.

So the assumption is that the HAM costs are unimportant to the customer - in light of the increased base percent and 80 kinetic. I will give it a try, but the 3 layer suits have some hideous HAM numbers on them....I think the helmet I tried last had 311 mind, ouch.

This is going to change with the combat revamp however... but for the moment 1k HAMS dont seem to bother anyone (yes I have made armor with 1000 HAM)

I recently gave lit-kin suits a try... turned out OK. (for a 10 point smith) Looking at about 550 HAM for 80 kin 73 ele 64 base composite... I have a feeling this may be quite popular after the revamp.

Oh ya, might want to try a different metal in your kin layers if you try for low kin... Im using some nice phriik... 955 oq 967 ma 813 sr i can get 2/6 2/2/2

I make 4 base, 8something kinetic layers usually. I get 27%, 17% kinetic, 12% elec on my segments.

This gives me 80% kinetic, 75% elec, and 62% base with decent HAM.

Go with what they said, put everything into base, and mayber one point into special resists if you arent at 80%.

Make some of that, then you can start playing around to lower the HAMs

as a 10 point smith you will have heavier armor, and your prices should reflect that

your armor should improve with every run you do, so get your initial formula down, and then work on improving on it.
