Thread: Armor Decay in CU

Here's a question - people are telling me to "stock up on armor now, because its gonna be really expensive once the new resource requirements hit". I am made to understand that all current armor will be converted to the new system, all well and good. My questions are:

If it is converted, will it be based on a percentage scale, e.g. 80% will be converted to whatever the maximum is in the new system?

How will slices be affected?

The major question and point of this thread however is as follows: Since damage will only be assigned to one pool, how will armor decay be determined? Will all pieces decay at the same rate? should I buy lots of extra chests, legs and boots, or should I buy complete suits? or are they getting rid of decay all together so I should buy one really good suit? or are they gonna nerf the hell out of old armor so it'll be better to buy the new stuff? Anyone with infor please share it

Conversion seems to work off the base protection. 80% kinetic, 59% base composite will covert to (supposedly) 59% of whatever the "max" is... I'm sceptical about anything in this conversion process. 80% kinetic, 22% base ubese coverts to junk.

I've heard that when armor is converted it forgets it has been sliced.

Decay... no clue. Honestly this community is clueless. Chapstick just needs to write a post saying this is what was done.

hey, im a swordsmen troling around on your forums *calie hasn't pulled me over yet*, and i have some info on this

when tc-valcyn was up, i dueled jedi for probably 30-45 minutes, and my RIS suit lost approx 2,000 condition from each pice

i was pretty shocked to see this and was wondering whta 2-3 horus of pvp would do to my RIS

this doesn't look good, but perhaps, it b/c i was fighting jedi and their LS tore up my armor? *i dominated the jedi btw =)*

i hope you guys can iron out this problem befor ethings hit live, so i can actually use my RIS

Armor does decay seemingly fast in the CU. But I suspsect that the same formula is used for decay. If that is true, the armor blocks less damage and more damage passes through it soit decays faster.

Just base effectiveness counts in the current conversion system (TC version 120406).

To determine your protection in the new 4 digit point value you can use this simple approximation that is valid for base effectiveness between 51% and 80%: points=(base-eff-0.5)*6160+3200. As an example: 70% base Composite would come out as (0.7-0.5)*6160+3200=4432.

How will slices be affected?

Encumbrancesliced armor has no effect at all. Base effectiveness slices between 81% and 90% do not follow this simple formula. Their conversion is much worse. 90% base converts to 5160 points, 89% to 5148.

I have done a row of 5*100 attacks to test the protection of full suit vs 1 or 2 piece suits.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=armorsmith&message.id=89074

I took down the condition after each step aswell, just need to analyse this a bit and I will post a damage/condition formula.

I have finished my analysis of damage effecting condition in CU with my test data from the Focus Thread: Full suits vs 1-2 piece suits [armorsmith&message.id=89074]

I did not record condition in test 1 so starting with test 2

test 2

condition after 100 attacksof Ubese Helmet: 45000-44220=780 condition loss

total damage taken from 100 attacks: 63*246+26*140=19138

total damage absorbed from 100 attacks: 26*106=2756

damage absorbed/condition ratio=2756/780=3.53

test 3

condition after 100 attacks of Ubese Helmet: 44220-43230=990 condition loss

condition after 100 attacks of Ubese Jacket: 45000-44460=540 condition loss

total damage taken from 100 attacks: 35*246+51*140=15750

total damage absorbed from 100 attacks: 51*106=5406

damage absorbed/condition ratio=5406/1530=3.53

test 4

condition after 100 attacks of Ubese Helmet: 43230-42090=1140 condition loss

condition after 100 attacks of Ubese Jacket: 44460-43770=690 condition loss

condition after 100 attacks of Ubese Pants: 45000-44370=630 condition loss

total damage taken from 100 attacks: 8*246+82*140=13448

total damage absorbed from 100 attacks: 82*106=8692

damage absorbed/condition ratio= 8692/2460=3.53

I think it is obvious from those 3 tests how is works for this test setup.

Thanks for all your effort. Great work! I have one question though. Your "damage absorbed". Is that the damage the armor blocked or the damage that passed through to the player?

I'm asking because I'm thinking that it is the damage that the armor blocked. If that is the case that is the exact opposite of how armor works now. Currently it is based on how much damage it did not block.

But if I'm understanding thiscrappy armor will last a long time while good armor will decay quicker.

my main question is, if I am wearing a suit of 9 pieces and I fight for a while, will all the pieces decay at the same rate, or will some pieces get hit more often than others? I need to know if I shouldstock up onextra chestplates etc.

Depends on what type of shots people use in pvp. In PvE i would think they would decay at about the same rate.
