Hello, I'm relatively new (playing two weeks) and I have three questions related to armorsmithing:
What is the damage type 'restraint' that I see in armor or on creatures?
What does an Ubese bandolier do? Is it just for show, or can it be made with sockets, or does it have some other effect?
What does an armor upgrade kit do for you?
Also, bonus question: what skill affects how well you can repair armor or weapons? Or is it purely based on the effectiveness of the tool you are using?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Very good question. Some will argue that restraint is the damage type for Force attacks, but after killing hundreds of Nightsisters and other Force users my opinion is that Force attacks are based on the equiped weapon. Since no weapons do restraint damage, my feeling is that this is a dead damage type.

The benefit of them (intended or not) is that they can be made with up to four sockets, and do not decay. They're perfect for extremely valuble armor attachments (so are Ubese shirts).

Smugglers use them to slice armor.
I don't think anyone really knows. Repair is one of the many broken things in the game. It's been so long since I've known anyone to use a tool with an effectiveness below 98% that I doubt anyone has any hard data on tool effectiveness.

Thanks a lot for the answers.
DirthNader, I'm going to PM you with another question regarding armor, please answer when you've got the time.

On Restraint: I've read many posts about it with a concept of it being their resist to things like warcry, intimidate, and things like such.

that must be some old armor because restrain was taken out of the game if I recall because it didn't work as intended.

Restraint still shows up on armor resistances, it never went away.
And add mabari armorweave belts to ubese armor shirts and bandoliers on the list of socketed non-decay armor items.

Interesting take on resraint...haven't heard it before.
I'll add the possibility of traps to the list. Or is it only grenades that NPCs throw?

I believe some Krayt scales will add this. I have a suit of armor made with Scales that has somewhere around 60% resist to Restraint.

Also, looted peices of armor still show restraint. I'm wondering what it really does, also.
