Thread: Chitin more durable than Ubese?

Hi,

Up untill a while ago I used 70%+ Ubese for hunting, but as I never see anyone on Tempest using chitin I decided to order a full suit of chitin from an AS friend of mine (58%K resist, highest I've ever seen on chitin, can you get much higher than this?).

I have the distinct impression that the condition on the Chitin lowers at a MUCH lower rate, I've been using this suit for well over a month now, in the same period I would have used several sets of ubese before.

Can you guys confirm my hunch, or just declare me an idiot for thinking this?

Thanks

I think it has to do with the fact that the Ubese Jacket covers 3 hit locations (R&L Bicep and Chest) whereas the Chitin has the 3 Separate pieces. So the Ubese Jacket is taking more of a beating while you are hunting.

Agreed Ryche. Damage is spread across more pieces, having the appearence of less decay.

As far as resists. I've made some 64% kinetic Chitin. The base was really low though. Just got some better doonium iron too, so maybe I can get higher.

Most of the chitin suits I see for sale, are using the sharnaff segments, so the kinetic is all over the board. One smith on Chimaera has been specializing in it for months, because the 'naff hunter go out several times a day. Segments are plentiful and cheap. Great bone shifts for some reason as well, usually on corellia. We just had at least 3 back to back better than 850/850 shifts in a row. Tattooine now has a great shift as well, and we have squill groups big time too, out of Anchorhead. Dantooine for adv segments has been crappy for a long time though, so 'naff segments have been the way to go. Organic resources ( non-wooly) tend to go for 2 to 3 cpu, even in large qualitites.

I've tried those segments. They seriously reduce the kinetic, which seems to be the damage type most using Chitin are concerned about.

If you don't care too much about kinetic, then make it using kliknik shells. They raise several of the base resists and lower encumbrance. Maybe one of these days I'll learn how to post screen shots. I have a set with around 170 total HAM in each area. Resists aren't bad either.

Is it possible to forget all together about effectiveness, and go for the high kinetic resist/low enc?

My current set has a and encumbrance of around 300 on all stats

Imessed around with the Sharnaff Plating Segments too. Two problems I had with it:

Kinetic was HALF of base. No kinetic as special resist on the Sharnaff Segs.

HAM costs was crippling. It was like making a composite suit.

I had over 100 segments saved up for playing with....I trashed them all after I made a bunch of armor with some. Saved all the Seg Enhancers though.

Yes. When it's created you get a starting % to the resistances and encumbrance. From that point, you decide where to experiment. 3 possibilities - Special resist, base resist and HAM/condition.

Most that make these are experimenting the special (kinetic) to the max value they can get...based on resource quality. Any points left over are typically put into base. Mainly because it's more "eye catching". The suit is already light compared comp or padded. Or, give the customer the choice when doing a custom order.

You can also decide to make the suit lighter at the expense of resistance.

I've done it both ways.

Don't also forget the higher the resistances the faster the decay as well. Armor condition is reduced by some factor related to how much dmg is resisted. Sooooo 70% ubese excluding all other factors will wear out 14% faster than your 56% chitin.

The others are right too, ubese jackets covers more body parts, and as such takes blows for 3 different areas, in addition to wearing out 14% faster.

Please read the Armorsmith Guide to know how condition vs resist is lost.

Condition is lost on damage that goes through, not damage prevented. Higher the resist the longer it last.

I've actually started getting a popular market for my 58% kin/24% base chitin. Comparitively to layered ubese its dirt cheap and lasts long enough that most people can use it without worrying about not having enough for a new suit in a few days.If i can manage to get better resources i'd like to see if i can get about 60% base and MAYBE be able to pull base's to 30% but that might be pushing it for an unlayred suit.

I've just started selling a few sets of 62% kinetic 20% base chitin. I could probably push 63% if I would use some of my better resources. I love adding super cheap voritor scales to hit 66% kinetic. Total suit HAM on the non-enhanced 9-piece sets is 335/323/412.

I also love slapping together pieces using throwaway resources and reinforced kliknik shells (also throwaway) from geo dungeon. They come out around 34% kinetic and sell like hotcakes on the bazaar in newbie city Mos Eisley.

I love chitin
