I've always been under the impression that the only difference between special resists and base was the slicability (if that's a word), yet still I see people (experienced MAS even) claiming otherwise, e.g. special acts as 10% higher protection than equivalent base. They claim to have tested this/heard it from CSRs etc.
So basically, what I'm looking for is any hard data on this issue (testing, dev statements... though how accurate the latter is is open to debate), rather than opinions. I know many of you will just repeat back to me what it says in the sticky or what you've always held to be true, but that's not helpful. Real data is. It would be nice to putto rest this myth once and for all (if that's what it is).

I'd heard that same myth back when I was a newb AS a little over a year ago. I did some tests to check it out, and the tests seemed to indicate special resists had better protection against higher AP weapons. I was flamed to death here on this board though for having run a newbish test, which indeed turned out to be the case. I re-ran the tests with better test armor (I had a helmet with exactly 50% energy in special, and another with exactly 50% energy in base). In this test there was no difference between the two resists and AP reductions worked exactly as described in Jaato's FAQ. Jaato (the AS correspondent at the time) and at least one other AS re-ran their own tests at the time I made my post, just to verify I was off in my initial test. Also keep in mind that the numbers in the FAQ weren't written down as someone's opinion, they were the result of many hours of testing by competent people
