Can anyone explain what the difference a regular armour segment can make compared to an advanced segment?

Advanced allow higher resistences at a low encumberence cost.

Yeah, just to give you an idea: yesterday a guildmate requested an Ubese jacket and pants from me and he said he only cared for kinetic protection (duh)...I didn't have the necessary resources to make an advance ubese segment yet, so I tried to make the jacket with a regular ubese segment--best I got was 45% kin. So I went out and bought (even though I'm close to being bankrupt, lol) the necessary resources (axidite iron and neutronium steel, if I remember correctly) to make the advance ubese segment. After all was said and done, I came out with 79% kin jacket...not bad considering they weren't the best resources. So it is a pretty big difference.
