My comp armour didnt work as I had planned. Wanted 80% kinetic, didnt get it
k my kinetic layers were 2 6%s and 1 5% (kinetic res), making my segments 17% and i wound up with only like 58% kinetic. what did i do wrong? It seemed like i was using skill points but nothing was happening?
Also, the base was only 45%......
Need a bit of guidance
I posted this on the other kinetic layer thread but this migh tbe easier to see

My kin layers are 4% base and 4 % kin resist. I use 3 for each segment and just lower the mall a little with resources. Since theres not any good wooly hide on my server right now i have trouble getting the kin up to 80% it tops for me now at 78-79%. With my old hide from several weeks back (800+ on SR and OQ ) 80% kin was easy.
my segments come out as 33% base and 13% kin 51 across the board on encumb. Granted the encumb is high but even lower encumb high resist armor is hard to put on without a buff and when you stat migrate it lowers the heck out of your primary stats. I just say heck with it and use doc buffs when ever i'm hunting.
the pieces come out with 78% kin and 70 or so % elec 65-66% base resist. I made 10 suits yesterday and got my real char to slice them made one full suit of 80%+ base armor and most of a second the others got encumb slices.
hope this helps a little

Well, something to bear in mind is that adding kinetic layers (and any layers other than stun or electricity for composite) the amount of special protection the layers must add to is the difference between your base resists and 80%. So in your case, assuming you do not add more to the experimental effectiveness line during experimentation to raise your composite's base resist value, your kinetic layers must add 35% kinetic to reach 80% kinetic (80% - 45% = 35%).
Also try to put at least one point into durability during experimentation on the segment. There is a known issue that causes the special protections to not achieve their max possible value until you put at least one point into durability. From the looks of things, the kinetic protection should have been around 62%...that 58% was probably caused by you not experimenting on durability.
One last thing...do not experiment on special protections to try and get your kinetic resist up. Experimenting here will only affect the electricity resist on composite.
Hope that helps.

My kinetic layers are 13% kinetic, 2% base. Takes two to get 80% kinetic. I have 54% base unlayered, so add the 30% from the layers hits 80%. If you want 80% experiment up the special protection on the layer, its really the only way to get to 80% without having incredible base.

Actually, you only need to add 26% in your case (which is what you did but you said 30%
).
You also might want to try using 3 layers instead of 2. More than likely you will reduce the encumbrance on your armor and raise the base resist up (although it does use more resources).

so whats the advantage of using 2 high kinetic layers over 3 lower kinetic layers?

Generally, you get a higher base resist (even without having to experiment on them) which also reduces the amount of kinetic resist that you need leaving you more points to put into reducing encumbrance or to put into effectiveness again raising your base and reducing the amount of kinetic resist...and on and on, I am sure you get the point.
Also I find that I can make 3, that will total up to 12-15% (or even 20-24) kinetic resist lighter than I can using 1 or 2 heavy kineticlayers. Again, you also get a nice little boost to your base resists.
