Thread: I managed to get onto TC (grim look at no decay)
Didn't do crafting 'cause I wanted to test out the combat system, which I thought was an interesting, nothing like it used to be, as for how good it is, that's hard to tell. Either it's a decent RPG combat system, or a really lousy FPS system, depending how you look at it.
My biggest fears though, is that we will no longer be getting repeat customers, ever.
We will be able to make initial sales to new players, but once they get a suit of armor they are set for as long as they'd like. There will be a small market for people upgrading to higher quality stuff, but once you get the capped layered suit of armor, there's not much more to get. Then maybe a minute amount of people will want new armor for new looks. So basically armor will only be resellable if it's fashionable and we get the tailor market to shop for armor in the same way.
This really spells out the doom for the vitality of our profession. Once everyone gets the armor they need, there won't be any more need for any more armor. A steady supply of n00bs might keep someone with a small bit of buisness, but not much, since the influx of new players seems kinda low. And nobody will need to get a new set of armor because they switched professions because you can't do that anymore.
Now since we are going to become linked to weaponsmiths, I predict our weapon sales will be more active then armor, since you can get people who need a new weapon every day or two as they get a higher level, but our armor sales are going to plummet. We won't have repeat customers anymore looking to replace their broken armor, which used to be the biggest portion of my buisness at least, and won't get people switching profs who need armor now.
I'm afraid on smaller servers one smith working hard with factories could probably meet the demands of the whole server. On the larger servers, a small handful. Whoever is lucky enough to make capped layered armor, and can supply a few hundred suits of it, will manage to put everyone else, and evenetually even himself out of buisness since once everyone gets it, nobody else will need armor anymore.
With no decay, there is no economy, and we will become as stagnet as architects.

theres bound to be one smith on your server who will lowball you all and make all the sales and then move on once he sold armor to everyone.

Actually, economics dictate that prices will likely plummet as demand for armor drops. Maybe they'll be an initial rush of sales in the first month or so, but as everyone gets the armor they want demand will drop while supply will remand about the same (in the short term at least). And considering that we can't change professions any more, the only option we'll have is to keep plinking away at an increasingly smaller armor market, destroyour toons to reroll, or quit the game altogether.
Another thing to consider, there are going to be a lot more potential armorsmiths out there. A lot of current weaponsmiths will now have the AS skills (and conversely, AS will have WS skills). The number of suppliers in both markets will theoretically double (assuming everyone who is an AS or WS now goes into the munitions line of Trader...which is a big assumption, I know).
Something else, even if someone decides to buy a new suit of armor, for whatever reason, they'll have their old armor which will be just as good as the day they bought it. So we'll have to compete against the used market, which will likely be very cheap as most of these players will be trying to sell their items on the bazaar under the 20K limit (unless the Devsplan to raise the credit limit with the NGE).
Combine all this with no decay and nice quest/loot dropped weapons, and it doesn't look good for crafters. The conspiratorial part of mybrainsays this is a concerted effort by the Devs to drive off crafters once and for all, and then when our numbers are sufficiently low put in NPC vendors with the excuse that "there aren't many crafters anymore". Heh.

A new trader is going to have a tough time getting started. They aren't going to be able to hunt and sell creature resources. They aren't going to be able to run themeparks or even get low-end loot to sell, such as the krayt skull. I guess there is always space as a source of cash, but by being a trader, a person willing cuts themselves off from 95 percent of the game.
I'm not sure I can hang around for this.

Well, I plan on making one suit of each type of armor for my self, then enough capped armor for my guildies. After that, i'll sell whatever's left then probably leave AS to find another way to earn honest credits. Who knows, maybe munitions will be hot hot hot with the PvPrs.
My biggest fear is that with the 9 respecs everyone gets they will just respec to AS/WS, craft what they need after buying small amounts of resources, and then just respec to a combat class thereby bypassing the need to buy from a "true" AS for their future needs. I suppose it doesn't really matter as my AS is getting cancelled anyway. Sad times.

I don't worry too much about that unless people are willy to settle for second best. At least on Scylla, the resources needed to make capped versions of each armor just aren't readily available (probably because I bought it all

Sorry, but as a WS I can tell you that won't really happen. What will happen is what happens alot pre-NGE. As levelling is so easy and quick players dump their lower level weapons on the bazaar at the major grinding points, and buy a second hand one at the same place. As they are only used for a very small time 'leetness' doesn't matter, they are a means to an end.
No combat kiddie in a hurry is going to spend time searching for a decent levelling weapon when they can buy a perfectly satisfactory second hand one for 1k.
