I was just thinking about the consequences of traders being the only ones with vendors. All other classes will only have access to the bazaar. That means entertainers can't sell instruments on their own vendors. "Scouts" (combat types who bother to loot creature resources) can't sell on their own vendors. You can't have a combat toon who specializes in selling resources or power from their own vendor. And of course, the loot lovers will not be able to sell the stuff they find--from krayt scales to loot kit parts--from their own vendor.
Now the bazaar might be sufficient to meet the needs of many players but not those who have enjoyed running a small business on the side. This change is really going to limit the ability of many to fully participate in the economy. I did read somewhere that if you have a vendor now you won't lose it after the NGE so I suggest people get them down ASAP.

I never did like like how people could run vendors without the artisan skills, but now people wont even be able to pick up artisan on the side :/ I wonder what the NGE will be like for us AS?
I wonder if there is any way we can "Specialize" our Munitions skills to give our Armor making an edge at the expense of the WS skills?

I think you do have to have the artisan skills to continue to access your vendor(s). If you have a vendor and drop artisan, I think you still get sales from it, but you don't have the ability to list or relist items on it.

Saw this post.
Interesting post
Claims that anyone can have at least one vendor. Geez, SOE, how about some information?

Actually, this is the ONE thing I don't have a problem with. In the past, "Merchant" was a joke class, as nobody in the game (except myself) ever made a distinction of "wholesale price" and "retail price". This now forces other players to make consignment type arrangements with Traders to place their merchandise on a vendor.

I look forward to my vendor being flooded with offers of undecayed armor. I might not ever have to craft again. Just buy all the used armor off the bazaar and from vendor offers, repackage it, and mark it up. Whee.

In the FAQ v1.1, it says that traders are the only people allowed vendors.
How are vendors going to be handled?
All crafters will keep their current vendors if transitioning to the Trader profession. All Traders will continue to be able to add items to the vendors for sale and sell items from them. However, if you go from a crafting profession and re-allocate your skill points into one of the combat professions, you will lose the ability to sell items from your current vendors (i.e. you keep the items stored but can no longer sell from them). Under the new profession system, only Traders will be able to sell goods and items.

This should be interesting as people who used to have 0030 artisan are now limited to the bazaar, the trade forums, and spamming the MO. Or I suppose there will be traders who do nothing buy and sell the goods of others as I think Lando would do. He never seemed to be about getting his hands dirty to me.
