If you have played WoW, do you recommend it? And, most importantly , is there an armorsmith profession? Is WoW comparable to SWG? Is it better, worse or the same? Is there any game out there comparable to SWG that you would recommend?

I may b out of here

THank You all for your great help and information

Combat in WoW is more or less the same as combat in the CU (not likethe new NGE though). Craftingin WoW, on the overhad,is for retarded monkeys. It hasnothing on SWG's crafting system. Also, if you're big into the community aspects of SWG (i.e. guilds, player cities, etc.) WoW pretty much has none of that. There are player guilds, but they don't have guildhalls, and there'sno player housing, no player cities and no player shops. And as Caile mentions above, WoW is heavily loot driven. Pretty much the best stuff inWoW is loot dropped, not crafted.

On the other hand, WoW's quest system is excellent. The quests are well written, well balanced andfor the mostpart very interesting. So far I've encountered no bugs in the quests either (nothing like SWG where broken quests go months before being fixed). Also, completingquests in WoW give experience pointsand many give useful items you can use as you grind your way up.

WoW's end game consists mostly of a fewhigh level dungeons and raid instances. They also have battlegrounds now, which I hear are fun (but I haven't had a chance to try them myself yet).

One thing I have noticed is that the maturity level of the typical WoW player seems to be much lower than that of the typical SWG player. I always thought the SWG forums were bad for flaming and trolling, but it's nothing like the WoW forums. If you don't like leet kiddies who act like jerks, I recommend playing on one of the role-playing servers. You'll encounter less of that kind of behavior.

WoW is aninteresting diversion, but I prefer SWG still, mainly for the crafting and business aspects of this game. NGE might change my view on that though.

Edit: There is sort of an armorsmith profession. You can take up twotradeskills in addition to your class. One of them is blacksmith, which allows you to make weapons and armor. I think at higher levels of blacksmithing you can choose to specialize in either weapon making or armor making, but I'm not 100% certain on how that works (I haven't gotten that high in a trade skill yet).

thanks for the input. I hope SWG does not go to crap. I love this game. Hopefully the game will survive and people will like it again.

I love WoW. The crafting there is more or less simplistic and it's more loot-drivene (i.e. 90% of an end-game player's items will be loot/quest rewards) but the writing, gameplay and balance are wonderfully fun.

I know the feeling, I am hoping I don't end up quitting, I love this game and personally don't see any other stack up to what SWG had. I'll give this game time, but it looks like I may shut down my little empire on flurry and go join my friends on WoW

I don't see how I can continue if armor never wears out, and I'm locked out of 95 percent of the game's content as a trader.

There it is for me. I actually wonder if the devs have ever played a crafting profession for a long period of time....

Blizzard has done online gaming forever, so they always have an upper hand on everyone else. In all their games.

Yes at higher levels you get to specialize in Blacksmithing. I also would not tell you to expect in depth content or complexity on crafting.
I did start on a recent new server and because prices are so high on loot and gold that I actually do manage to sell crafted armor to the current population. There are looted "plans" or schematics and rumor is there will be more of that added to promote bit higher intrest in crafting. There is "decay from use" in wow and you can fix items from zero condition but the armor is "soulbound" and thus there is no used market. It is a cool little side gig and the Auction house is very simple bazaar-like setup. Also I mine while I am out and about questing. For extra resources, the auction house is great as are guildmates/friends. Just another component in some well rounded fun.

Well, as far as crafting weapoins is concerned, SWG and WoW are more or less on the same footing now. After checking out TC Corbantis last night I was so disappointed. Sub-components have no stats at all (so resource quality doesn't matter). Final weapon combines only have experimentation for damage (so why even bother having an experimentation process?). Damage enhancers have no stats and cannot be used at all in crafting. So all weapoins will truly become cookie-cutter, just like WoW's crafting system.

Sad.
