Thread: Dilemma, a fork in the road

Ok, I'm a Novice Armorsmith and I've only been playing for about a month now. After reading a post about another new armorsmith and what route up the skill tree he took, I'm debating what to do. Currently I'm a Master Artisan, Novice Scout, Novice Marksman and Novice Armorsmith. My armorsmith skill tree looks like this 2/0/0/0. I was reading the postI mentioned before and a lot of master level player seem to suggest going all technique first.

My second concern is the proposed changes to crafting in the next patch. With all the changes to crafting that will widen the gap between the haves and have nots in the crafting world, I'm debating what to do.

Options (as I see them):

1). Should I start grinding again to build up technique?

2). Should I continue working toward Ubese and grind up technique then?

3). Stop grinding armorsmith altogether and work on another skill (i.e.: weaponsmith, architech, droid engineer)?

4). Another option I've totally missed.

Any positive feedback is appreciated and really needed.

I can't comment on the crafting changes. If you do decide to stick with armorsmith I'd say it doesn't matter what order you do it in because you really need to be at 3/0/0/4 with good resources to have an in-demand product.

I got to 3/0/0/4 and bought some advanced Ubese segments from a retiring master. Those got me to 4/1/0/4 where I started making kinetic layered Ubese and the odd chitin or padded set on request. I did this until last night, where at 4/4/2/4 I finally bit the bullet and ground out the rest.

I'd reccomend the slow way up for one reason - resources. While a lot of folks grind their eyeballs out and get to master quick, they either end up spending a fortune to get resources for master level crafting or do nothing while they wait for good shifts. By taking it slow you give yourself time to build up a good amount of resources. Sure it took me awhile to master armorsmith, but now I've got enough resources to make around 500 composite suits of very good quality and around 20 with quality on parwith the best on the server. Not bad for someone who mastered this morning, and the vast majority of of my minerals were harvested by myself for 0.5cpu or less andall ofmy hides were bought in shift for fractions of what they go for now (my 80K stack of wooly cost me 30cpu and sells for over 250cpu now).

The reason you we suggest you go up the Technique's Line is to produce higher quality armor that is "sellable" on the bazzar in order to supplement your income while grinding. If money is not an issue, then by all means grind away in any order you chose.

As far as the crafting changes for the next publish, that's a whole separage issue. I'm actually shocked there hasn't been more activity regarding this issue. They tried to pull this stunt back when Publish 6 was due to come out and all crafters raised enough hell to have them re-think things.

All Armorsmiths, please support any thread regarding this. The change that they are planning to implement *WILL* lower the quality of goods that we are able to produce. 80% may be a thing of the past if this goes through...

yeh if ur worried about making a quick buck during ur grind u need to be 3/0/0/4 to make some decent ubese. if u dont really care about making money and just want to level armorsmith then it doesnt matter what order ur grind up. i do suggest that u grind with maibri chests on practice that give about 400xp or ubese shirts which give about 120. i am unaware of the changes that are comming in the next publish but if ur looking to make decent money, master armorsmith is the way to go once you have collected of of your resouces to make composite, for example. this can be a quite tedious task if u do not have a lot of money to start out with as well it it can be difficult to locate all the resources you need, but each server is different. if your in it for the long haul go master, everyone needs good armor all the time. even if you cant get all the resources to make composite at master, you still get additional mods at master for added armor customization, assembly etc so even here u can make some nasty adv ubese that sells for decent money as well. also if u want work up a good combat tree such as rifleman in order to hunt ur own hide and save yourself some money. well i dunno if i even answered ur question but hope this helps

The 80% you know and love will go away with Pub 7 if it goes live as it is on test center now. What you will be able to make is 80% with around 20%more HAM than now. This according to the other threads on this board.

This change sickens me, except that I know the reality of MMORPGs is changes like this. It's going to make current stuff worth a great deal, I think. It will also make armor that is light to medium now and tops out with little experimentation more useful/valuable. The heaviest suits will be made only with looted components, so they will be rare indeed.

In a funny way, it will stimulate the economy. Consider: Right now, AS are largely self-sufficient. They can harvest their own hides if they want, and all the resources for the apex armor (composite). With new changes, making loot drops more important, armorsmiths and weapon smiths will have to buy components from melee/adventurer types. It's a redistribution of wealth to some degree, because those adventurer types are often strapped for cash. Missions do not easily pay the bills.

Well after reading all these replies and a couple of other threads, I've decided to slow my AS grinding. I think I'm going to concentrate on uping my Scout skills, just so I can get CH. Why CH you ask? Why not? I spent most of last evening searching for the very specific materials needed for Advanced Armorweave and Advanced Bone ArmorSegments. SoI've decided to focus on something a little more entertaining for now. I'm stillgoing to grind and search for resources, but not as much as I have been.
