Thread: Armor crafting with loot components

Hello:
I would like to have some statments from experienced smiths regarding armor crafting using looted components. I haven't really bothered with this much as I can go through suits pretty quick, but I'm curious.
I'm only curious about composite at this time, so we'll deal with loot that can be used in it, which I think is:
Krayt Dragon Segments (need to be ~15% or better to exceed AS crafted segs?)
Krayt Dragon Scales (if used, bump some resistences into special protection)
Nightsister Armor Shards (reduce encumberence, no negative aspects)
Nightsister Armor Layers (not sure on these, if used does that mean you can't use your own layers, like if you wanted to close the stun hole for example?)
Janta Hide (can be used when crafting segments (i.e. cant use this and krayt segments)and bumps base resists ~3-5%)
The above was my general understanding of the stuff, can anyone paint a better picture of how it works?

You're pretty much right on the money with everything. Except I would say Krayt Segments need to be 19% to be comparable to an Armorsmiths created segment.

Can you explain NS layers for me? Do they replace crafted layers, so there would be a stun hole if you used them?

Yes, if used in Composite there will still be the vulnerability to it. Its used in crafting just as a normal layer is. It raises the base resists by X% and lowers Action Enc by X amount.
