Is this just to get higher base to slice and get the kinetic to 90%?
I have an easier time making a good layer with kinetic.
Do people use this in PvE?
I find Kinetic better in PvE

Sure, energy layered Comp is great for Corvette missions. The primary damage type from the MOBs is energy.

i can make better quality energy layers than kinetic, but yea a 80%energy 90%base is worth alot more than a 80%kinetic 90%base

My best selling armor is 80%kinetic/80%energy 71%base. Yes, you can get higher protection by buying a high base set and slicing, but most of my customers dont want to buy 3 sets to get one set of usable armor. Most just like that no matter what, they get at least 80%kinetic and 80%energy.

how doy uo get 80 kinetic and 80 energy? Do you use 2 energy layers or 2 kinetic layers?

2 of whichever you can do better. For most people thats kinetic layers.
It doesn't matter what layers you use, whichever ones you can do best is what will work best really.

For me, I can get there by either using 2x kinetic/1x energy or 2x energy/1x kinetic. For my 2x layer, I just max the base, and throw the rest into lowering the ham, and the 1x layer, I try to get 9% to its specific resistance, and throw the rest into base.

I do 2x Energy (4.898% base) and 1 9.541% kinetic for 80K/80En/70B.
I also do 80Cold/71B for those who like to go for the very best. It may take 2 or 3 suits to get a good set but a piece of 90% will last twice as long as a piece of 80%. And I can make my cold stuff a bit lighter than the Energy/Kinetic stuff.

You just need to know the formulas for calculating layer resistances and then plug in your resources' exact stats.

The layer formula is pretty simple.
for base it's: 1 + (weighted average of your resource stats*(weighted ave of resource stats*1.5E-5 + 1.5E-2))*Experimentation*.04
//By experimentation I mean: 7 for a great, 8 for an amazing, just add em all up.
Max base is simply your weighted ave of resource stats/10 and rounded to 3 decimal places.
For special protection it's nearly the same, except the resistance modifier is .14 instead of .04
When doing your weighted average, the gas is not penalized for not having an SR stat, the gas's OQ stat counts for both OQ and SR.

80% energy armor is so you can buy one suit with out having to depend on a slice to go up on the vette. Even if you win on the vette your armor takes a pounding so this is a way to limit the cost of getting the loot and badges
