Hi people !
well, I was just thinking about a way to add some diversity in armors, throwing in new values in fighting and.. well.., getting out of "full compo land".
so here it is:
It's about making certs for each armor and a set of armor for each profession.
we'll have, like we already have now, different level of armors, but specific armors for specific professions, exactly like weapons.
so instead of having everybody in composite, we'll have like 3 levels of armor along each profession, and like 3 different armors for each level.
like let's take the pistoleer profession as an example:
we'll have 2 armors avalaible at novice marksman, a=basic armor (similar to bone armor/low end armor), b=mid armor (tantel/padded like)
then the novice pistoleer would be certed for a new pistoleer specific armor set, same with "a" type, "b" type, "c" type, not specially better than marksman's ones, just different. "c" type being high end armor like composite or ubese.
and master boxes would add like 1 or 2 cert(s) for master type armors (no need for a low end/cheap one once you hit master)
maybe wookies would only get the current wookie armors or maybe a larger selection.
this way we won't see most of people in composite armor everywhere, and you guys AS will have something else to craft, and would be able to diversify your business, like once can be a rifleman's armor specialist or fencer armor speicalist etc...
and maybe throw in more interaction with tailors as well, for specific parts.
this would be -in my opinion- awesome and would add a great interrest in your profession.
just tell me what you think bout it

Not the first time someone has proposed this. There are several issues with it.
Unless each profession has its own armor (ugh), then everyone will still race to master so they can get the best armor. If you get comp at master, almost everyone will still be wearing comp. Problem not solved. Its quite possible to master almost all of the combat classes very quick, if people have to be master to get comp then there will be even more reason to do the two day macro grind to master.
I don't want to have to make 20 different master, 20 different mid-range and 20 different novice armors. Thats way way to much work. I'm running out of resource space as it is making comp, I don't want to think about a hoard of new armors. I personally don't want diversity. It dosen't matter if its comp or ubese or armorweave I'm making, I'm still laboriously clicking and clicking. The type of armor dosen't matter to me, I don't really care what I'm making. I want to make something good, thats what I care about. I want several good, money-making, viable types of armor, not 90 different ones where most of them suck.
Why would I want to make the lower end armors, the high end will be used longer and will sell better. It would be something for the non-master smiths I suppose, but they won't be good quality.
People wear composite for one reason and one reason only. Its the best. Of the other armors, only ubese armor can easily be made good, and ubese is only useful in pve. Composite armor protects well against almost all types of damages, thats why people use it. They way to make the other armors viable is to make them not suck.
And yeah, there is a merchant nerf comming, I don't have the vender space for a hoard of new stuff.

you didn't get a detail wich makes all the difference.
let's say we have 3 levels of armors, A, B, and C
at novice base profession, you get certed for 2 armors, A type and B type (bone like for beginners/poor dudes, and tantel-like if you got more cash)
at novice elite prof you get certed for 3 other armors, A type, B type and C type (C being compo/ubese like) ones wich are different ones than novice base ones (but A/B having similar stats, just a different display)
at master elite prof, you get certed for 2 other armors wich are B type and C type.
I'm not saying you're getting crap at novice base, medium at novice elite and best at master
I'm saying that novices are getting crappy/mid range armors certs (to fit all budgets), novice elit get certed for crappy/mid level/high level armors, and masters get extra mid level/high level different armors.
novice base A having similar stats than novice elite's A
same for novice base B and novice elite's B
same for novice elite C and master elite C
so at novice elite prof you already get access to higher end armor if you can afford it

I really don't mind that everyone wears composite. It makes my life a lot easier. It means I only have to manage resources for one armor type. I'm running out of space already, I don't want to have to stock resources for 8 others.

All you have to do is add a skin, you make composite armor but one of the steps is changing the skin of the armor too look like padded/ubese etc. This could also work for Stormtrroper/Marine armor for high enoguh rank AS and such.

That I could deal with, but don't expect anything like that for a long long time. Any new armor requires a lot of art work and modeling to fit all available character shapes, and with almost everyone working on JTL there isn't much available for much else.

That would be great! Best idea I have heard in a long time. Having different skins for composite and just choosing which one would mean everyone could have good armor that looks cool. I mean, everyone agrees, Composite is ugly. And after seeing it a bajillion times it is very dull and boring. I would like to see Imperials wearing Storm Trooper armor, Rebels wearing Marine Armor(with a fixed helmet....that thing is really ugly....cone shape is bad for helmet), and other people wearing different armor. We should be unique, everyone in Star Wars was unique. In the way they dressed, acted, crafted, and fought. Ok, I'm done

Rebels can get rebel armor and imps can get stormtrooper armor, its just that it sucks.
