Thread: Does the light armor rating of a psg stack with the ar1 of comp armor?

Well I'm trying to figure out something.

I have a psg with:

AR1:

45% to stun

I have a stun chestplate with:

AR1:

40% to stun

Ok so I hit a player wearing both of these with an ap0 stun baton.

Because of the ar1 of comp > ap0 of the stun baton, the dmg is decreased of 50%.

Then the dmg is reduced by the psg. What I'm wondering is does the ar1 of the psg also decrease the dmg by 50%? Basically the dmg done to the player is decreased by 50% twice.

PSG's, when they work (they are rather buggy), work exactly like a normal peice of armor in addition to any actual armor you happen to be wearing. Damage will be modified by the AP value and resist value just like a regular peice of armor. The reduced value will then be reduced again by the armor itself as usual.

p.s, the PSG comes into play first, than your regular armor.

if its working right that is what is supposed to happen. Kinetic blows right past the shield but AR1 on non vulnerable composite blocks 50% to start vs AR 0 weapons (Stun batons and Geo pistols).

The problem is the PSG sometimes fails to work when you load. so you might need to unequip and reequip the shield to get it to work. This happens so often the when I wrote macros in the past for COB I would equip and unequip the shield as part of the macro just to keep it refreshing.

Good idea until you get killed by the armor equip delay.

no

only the shields AR is taken into consideration so lets say you get this with a stun batton for 1k

the AR1 of the shield takes it to 500

then the 40%resist takes that to 300

now the 40%armor takes it to (300*.6) = 180

so no you do not get a 2nd 50% reduction for the Armors AR rating

Actually, yes it doe.

It's kind sad that the dang PSG is so buggy 3 Master Armor Smiths can agree on exactly how they work.

Yes, it does stack. I've watched my battle spam often enough to know. You'll see damage reduced by the shield. Write the total damage down. Then write down the damage taken by the armor piece. You'll see that both 50% reductions are working.

Ex, 1000 energy hit to chest ( ap0). ar1 of shield eats 500 points ( and big condition loss). Say shield has 50% energy resist special ( for simplicity). 250 points left, and another bite out of condition. That ar 1 chestplate will now eat 50% (125 points) plus 80% ( another 100 points) leaving you to take 25 points total damage.

Whats sad is that there isn't any good reliable in-game documentation to go on so we are reduced to this in the first place. I would like nothing better than for there to be good info on this spelled out in the game but alas this is nothing. We have to figure it out through our own observations, which is stupid.

Other thing to remember, is if you're hit by an AP1 or better weapon, like a jawa rifle, and the PSG is ignored currently

I have done testing on this with AP0 through AP3 weapons and I found that the PSG does block damage from AP weapons. From the testing I did, the AR1 of the PSG worked fine with AP0 through 2, but acted a little squirrely with AP3. What I found is that while it did block damage from AP3, it didn't block nearly as much as it should have.

Worse, you take ADDITIONAL damage. 25% per AP above AR I believe. If the same, it's ignored. If above, OUCH.
