Not an armorsmith, but I think this is a good place to post:

I buy some compo arm armor, and when I put it on myself, it looks kinda weird:

Left bracer: white

Right bracer: light red

Left bicep: light red

Right bicep: white

Body: Red

Head: Red-Brown

Pants: White/Black

Feet: White

Gloves: Dark red

so i take it off and try to change the color, but all I get is "refit armor", which I don't need atm.

Am I missing something or what?

You can no longer change the color of armor. Colorization is now a crafting-only thing.

not sure about all that, but if you refit it to comp, it'll all go white

Because when you refit it, it turns into a predefined type of armor. white composite for one type of assault. light blue padded for one type of battle armor... etc...

refit? that changes to assault, recon, or battle. How does that change color?
