Thread: Composite formular?
Congrats! And you're on my server too... We need to talk. I might be able to enhance your wares a bit.
I can answer your questions from the perspective of an armor user, and the crafting thing is largely unknown to me, BUT I have learned a few tricks from buying drinks for AS, who don't generally get out enough.
High percentages are defined two ways: Base and special. If you add one or more Layers to the armor, you will move one of the base percentages into the special range. Comp can have three layers. Where you put your points is not my area of expertise, but I do know that the fractions you don't see when crafting DO add up. Example: You add three 4% layers to a piece. You end up with +13% to the protect. The game knows your layers are 4.4%, but you can't see it.
Another key is UBER materials. You will need materials of over 900 OQ to make uber stuff. Unit toughness and shock resistance should also be high. Maleability helps control HAM cost, and ease of experimentation. MAL is the one to sacrifice, in general.
I buff into my composite. I bought a heavy suit that I wear to fight high end content and other players. For everyday hunting, I wear a set of high kinetic resist Ubese, becuase most beasties hit you with kinetic damage. Most players do this, or just go buffed all the time if they have a friendly Doc. Encumberance of armor sometimes just doesn't matter to folks. Most who fight buffed always have two suits: An energy resist suit and a kinetic suit of comp. The energy suit will be made to have 80% special resist to energy, and the kinetic will have 80% to kinetic damage, and all pieces will be sliced by a smuggler, generally to bring the rest of the percentages over 60%, but sometimes for encumberance.
I can tell you that with the advent of a dangerous stun weapon, stun layers are about to be in vogue. I saw a whole slew of special stun resist helmets on Naboo the other day. 36% stun resist/65% or so electric, high 50-s for everything else, unsliced, 150K per item. The reason this is worth while is that stun weapons that hit your head are the only damage you can't heal easy. Chestplates with stun layers are about to be common, since the nightmare for many l33t d00dz will be the smuggler/pistoleer/fencer defense stacker with the krayt Genosian blaster spamming Last Ditch.
I would also say there is a nitch market for oddity armor. No one that I can find makes really good advanced CHitin, and I would buy that over Ubese for the looks and broader protects. Padded is becomming more popular, but is expensive to make well. Good luck, and send Yakisoba a e-mail in game if you want to talk.
