Thread: What enhancements for Padded?
- Wooly from Yavin (kill mamiens)
- Cubirian Steel (sp?)
- Duralloy Steel
- 2 Layers (Optional)
- 1 Armor Enhancement (Optional)
For the actual armor to be made it needs these resourses:
- Lokian Leathery
- Corellia Fiberplast
- Scaley Hide
- Wooly Hide
- Fiber Panels & Syn Panels
- Polymer
- Any type of metal
I think I listed them all.
Dont know the exact numbers on how much of each you will need....but its quite a bit.
As you can see it takes alot of time waiting for good resourses to spawn because of the many specific types needed, IF you want the best possible. If you go hunting / shopping for your own resourses you are looking for high (900+) Overall Quality & Shock Resistance. Malability and Unit Toughness are also important but not as much (IMO).
If you want to add enhancements you need5 with any serial number for the arms and gloves(one for each segment). You will need 5 with the same serial number for the chest & 4 with the same serial number for the leggings (need's factory run).
Voritor scale enhanced mabari boots will be easier to make, and you get a little energy protection with them as well. Or you can try Krayt scaleenhanced mabari (protects everything but stun, with very low resistances).
With double layered padded you will take a heavy hit in encumberance & you will need to buff to wear it all (even with the mabari boots). If you do get it layered, make sure the smith can hit around %12 to %13 on the layers (if you want all out protection). You can also try hunt nightsister shards to help abitwith the encumberance...but your gonna need some serious firepower to killthem. I'm not sure you can have the best of both worlds with armor in this game, (heh) it eather protects you fantastic while not being able to wear the full suite because your HAM is at 1, or protects you hardly with lighter encumberance....but thats why there are Master Doctors around, Spice, Chef buffs & Dancer buffs.
While it is possible fora smith to hit %75 kinetic or energy, and in the high 40's for the other resistances, you may have a hard time finding one with all the good resourses to make it.
Good luck!

Wow- I wasnt even looking for something that good! Is it possible to have the set turn out about 2/3 - 1/2 as effective with much lower HAMs?I'd love to find that "sweet spot" where HAMs arent dramaticaly high, but the protection is "decent", just before HAM costs start rising dramatically for small increases in effectiveness. Also, nightsister and krayt in padded? I thought these were composite only enhancements.
As a Master Smuggler, slicing isnt an issue, but getting the right/good slices is. I have done all effective in the teens for 1 customer, and high 30s on encumb for another... quite distressing.

I would wait on the nightsister shards as they do not reduce Health HAM(according to the mabari I made) even though the shard says it does. This probably because of the missing Health encumberance stat on armor segments (bug), the wise thing to do would be to wait till the bug is fixed before you give them to a smith to use.
The best nightsister shard I've seen was -23 for all 3 pools.
As far as hitting the middle of the road with padded, you can try only one layer in each segment and have the smith put 5 points into durability & overall quality on the segments and armor (6 each if you can find the elite smith with 12 experimentation points). I would recomend having the smith put points into HAM costs on the chest and pants. Points spent on boots, arms or gloves will only save you between 5 to 8 points total, where as it could increase your protection up to 20% or more instead.
Krayt segments are for composite only, Krayt scales are an enhancement and can be used in any armor.
Not Segments. You are looking for the scales . Segments are for a specific type of armor (Krayt segments are only for composite, Voritor segments are only for bone armor...etc). On the other hand scales can be used in any armor segment as an enhancement in addition to any layers. You can loot the scales off the beasties dead carcas.
Voritor scales are usually low in protection numbers, but if you get a smith with the right materials that small +%4 to kinetic can put you into the mid to high %70's or at the %80 cap, without having to have the most super resourses. The best voritor scale I have ever seen was %8 kinetic & 5% energy.
Oh, andI would not waste money onKrayt segments unless the overall % is more than %32. But I think the encumberance numbers on the Krayt segmentsare lower than a triple layered electrical segment...not sure, dont think they add protection to stun either...but I don't use them at all because what people ask for them is outragous....
Ok... let me make sure I have it strasight so far:
For padded armor, Krayt and Voritor scales, and Rancor Hide Segments can be applied to increase the resistances of the armor, but at the cost of higher HAMs. Nightsister Shards can also be added to reduce HAMs, but the Health HAM reduction is currently non-functional, plus they seem to be more trouble than they are worth.
I still have some remaining questions, and am grateful for all your patience...
Is "Hide" (not "Hide segment") similar to "scales" in their use?
You mentioned in the construction of segments 2 "layers", could you explain what these "layers" comprise of?
There is mention of adding something from Fambaa to padded elsewhere on the boards (Hide? Segment? not sure...), but it was talking about using it for energy bonuses, and I cant seem to find any evidence of any Fambaa drop that does that. After killing 30 of them, I havent seen anything drop in looting them either. Can anyone clarify what this was? Was it changed from Fambaa Hide to Voritor scale at some point?
Last one, more for the hunter than the armorer- at what frequency are scales and segments dropping? After hunting 30 Fambaa for several hours and looting nothing, I began suspecting I was missing some key info... perhaps only the tougher versions drop?
Thanks again for all the info! If you were on Starsider I'd toss a few creds your way!

I picked up three armor components from Voritors on Dant the other night, in about 2 hours of hunting. Was with a big random group, and no one wanted to scales/segs, or was not looting. So on the Leezards, not a bad drop rate, but if you have cash, the best hunting ground is the bazaar ![]()

You can add1 enhancement to each armor segment. In your example, If you use a krayt enhancement on padded armor it will "move"most the effectiveness [protections] up to special protection, making them unsliceable.Unless a enhancement says "overall %5" (or something like that)then the effectivess gets the small boost, remains sliceable, staying in the effectivess list.
Also since padded is naturaly vulnerable to heat, and you have something that gives it a bonus to heat protection, the new protection statwill be stuck at that number (in the special protections list), the smith will not be able to increase its base (starting) percent. Youdo get the AR1 rating with it though.
"You mentioned in the construction of segments 2 "layers", could you explain what these "layers" comprise of?"
There are several different layers a smith can make. Acid, heat, energy, kinetic, electrical, stun...etc, each one needs different and/or specific resources, usualy between 3 and 4 different types.
Not sure if fambaa enhancements are worth the trouble, a bonus to cold protection and something else...can't remember...maybe a %2 overall?
"Is "Hide" (not "Hide segment") similar to "scales" in their use?"
Don't think there is such a thing as a "Hide segment" just hide, like Rancor Hide or Fambaa Hide (havent seen this one in a long time, maybe they took it out? or nobody hunts em anymore)Yes they are similar to scales. If you happen to stumble accross Gurk King Hide, its used for RIS armor.
