How important would you say the hides are in the final assembly? Much? Little?
I've just recently started crafting armors and have yet to get my hands on some great shifts of hide. Should one cry rivers if I'm not finding +2700 OQ/SR/UT hides?
Having played around a bit over the weekend with layers and segments I feel like the segments are realy important to get good, so spending money on awesome resouces for that seems to have the biggest results.

In my experience, hide has made the difference of only a percent or two in the base. SR over 900 and OQ in the high 700s works fine for me.

you should try to get OQ+SR >1800 stuff by all means
also if something good is in shift get on it and get your hunters out there, it may be forever before something spawns again.
hides are different than minerals because with a mineral spawn, you can drop 10-20 heavies down and get a couple of mill or a resource and be done with it for the next milinea, you cant do that with organics

To me, hide is the single most prized resource.
The difference when mass slicing 69% base to 71/72% base when trying to hit 90% is everything. I know, i have sliced the galaxy it feels like.
And hide is hard to get as suggested by the previous poster, minerals you can reply of someone pulling several million out of the ground even if you miss it.
Beg, steal, borrow...pay stupid amounts of cash but get good hide and as much as possible if in spawn.
