I have a question about something in the armorsmith faq reguarding the Gated Resources section...

Appendix H: Gated Resources

Beryllius Copper MA 594-683 SR 404-468 UT 394-475

Colat Iron MA 279-396 SR 678-797 UT 678-796

Kiirium Steel MA 65-93 SR 536-604 UT 448-537

Metal MA 4-1000 SR 4-1000 UT 998

Polymer MA 6-999 SR 38-999 UT 17-991

Amorphous Gemstone MA: 7-597 SR: 13-995 UT: 4-997

Known Inert Gas MA: N/A SR: N/A UT: N/A

Low-Grade Ore MA: 7-999 SR: 1-999 UT: 5-999

Ferrous Metal MA: 1-598 SR: 406-998 UT: 5-999

Crism Siliclastic Ore SR: 177-316 MA: 500-674 UT: 202-385

Vertex Crystalline Gemstone SR: 911-998 MA: 339-397 UT: 889-967

Crystalline Gemstone SR: 326-998 MA: 2-397 UT: 315-967

Skevon Reactive Gas SR: N/A MA: N/A UT: N/A

Aluminum SR: 7-900 MA: 5-996 UT: 8-898

Carbonate Ore SR: 23-687 MA: 309-996 UT: 219-994

Copper SR: 312-797 MA: 509-999 UT: 301-800

Siliclastic Ore SR: 7-570 MA: 310-994 UT: 15-981

Intrusive Ore SR: 522-980 MA: 15-593 UT: 422-995

There are stat ranges listed on these resources and I'm wondering what they are listed for. For instance, on the Beryllius Copper it says UT of 394-475.. does this mean I cant find this resource with a stat outside that range? (as in min-max numbers)

Im a newly master armorsmith and I am really not familiar yet with how resource stats really work. I was trying to gather up these resources last night but not having much luck finding *good* resources for some of these and I am now wondering if this list explains that..

These numbers are taken from everything that has spawned in the past.

It's known that certain resources don't have high qualities in certain areas. For example...copper will always be a better conductor than iron. Also, certain named resources of the same type have been rated according to quality. (ie. In real life, Diamonds are more valuable (and harder) than opels.) So certain resources in game have been given similar ratings.

The list yousee may change. It's only based on what we've seen so far. So the stats may very well go outside of the range listed.

Hmm, maybe I should beef up the explanation for this section a bit. There's a subsection of the FAQ that describes how gated resources work (it's in Part II: Crafting Armor), but let's see if I can give a short summary.

You are mostly correct in your belief that you cannot find resources outside the listed ranges. Basically, those ranges come from an examination that Arcus made of all the stats of that particular resource that have spawned across all servers. The data comes from a site called "SWGCraft.com", which if you're not familiar with it, I highly encourage you to check it out. The source of the data is self-reporting, so while a large portion of the resources that have spawned across all the servers are listed, the list is not all-encompassing. Sample sizes can vary, from 20-30 for specific resources like Berrylius, to very large for general categories like "Iron".

That said, the data does provide a pretty accurate range of resource statistics. For example, while you may be able to find some Berrylius with a UT greater than 475, it is pretty unlikely. My guess is that the absolute cap for UT on Berrylius is probably 500. The same holds true for minimums.

Following the listing of caps for commonly used armorsmith resources, there's a general list ranking various types of resources that BigAke put together. Interestingly, those rankings hold true for all the resource's attributes- in other words, Phrik Aluminum has the highest cap for SR, Mall, UT and everything else. Note that Overall Quality is never capped.

Hope this helps. Ask more questions if this explanation is unclear.

Thanks guys, that makes sense now. It also explains why I was not finding any "good" resources for some types.. Now that I know there are stat caps I can go back to resource vendors and probably find what I want.

Hopefully I can find them all tonight, I want to have at least decent resources to begin experimenting with to learn how to build good armor.

One thing I just noticed is missing from the list is organic resources. I'm not sure these are gated at all- especially hides. I've found both wooly and leathery hides with near-perfect stats before.

I dont think organic resources are gated. A quick analysis of 50 yavinian wooly hides shows that all stats vary between 0 and 1000 with an average of about 500 and a standard deviation of 280.
