Thread: Gated resources and the stats listed in the FAQ Question
These numbers are taken from everything that has spawned in the past.
It's known that certain resources don't have high qualities in certain areas. For example...copper will always be a better conductor than iron. Also, certain named resources of the same type have been rated according to quality. (ie. In real life, Diamonds are more valuable (and harder) than opels.) So certain resources in game have been given similar ratings.
The list yousee may change. It's only based on what we've seen so far. So the stats may very well go outside of the range listed.
Hmm, maybe I should beef up the explanation for this section a bit. There's a subsection of the FAQ that describes how gated resources work (it's in Part II: Crafting Armor), but let's see if I can give a short summary.
You are mostly correct in your belief that you cannot find resources outside the listed ranges. Basically, those ranges come from an examination that Arcus made of all the stats of that particular resource that have spawned across all servers. The data comes from a site called "SWGCraft.com", which if you're not familiar with it, I highly encourage you to check it out. The source of the data is self-reporting, so while a large portion of the resources that have spawned across all the servers are listed, the list is not all-encompassing. Sample sizes can vary, from 20-30 for specific resources like Berrylius, to very large for general categories like "Iron".
That said, the data does provide a pretty accurate range of resource statistics. For example, while you may be able to find some Berrylius with a UT greater than 475, it is pretty unlikely. My guess is that the absolute cap for UT on Berrylius is probably 500. The same holds true for minimums.
Following the listing of caps for commonly used armorsmith resources, there's a general list ranking various types of resources that BigAke put together. Interestingly, those rankings hold true for all the resource's attributes- in other words, Phrik Aluminum has the highest cap for SR, Mall, UT and everything else. Note that Overall Quality is never capped.
Hope this helps. Ask more questions if this explanation is unclear.

Thanks guys, that makes sense now. It also explains why I was not finding any "good" resources for some types.. Now that I know there are stat caps I can go back to resource vendors and probably find what I want. ![]()
Hopefully I can find them all tonight, I want to have at least decent resources to begin experimenting with to learn how to build good armor.
