Thread: Kryat scales/hides: how are they used in crafting armor?

I just bought some kryat scales with 19% to base each and no HAM costs. I also have some janta and rancor hides that I'd like to use too. I've never used armor enhancements before and would like some advice on how to use them. Do the enhancements stack their effectiveness (ie.will 3 of my kryat scales raise the base by 57%?) or not? I'd like to know cause I plan on making myself a nice kick arse set of armor with all my scales and hidesand don't want to screw it up. Thanks.

It sounds like those are krayt segments not scales. Both are unfortunately fairly useless, but here are the exceptions:

For Krayt Segments (can only be used in composite armor): If the base percentage is better than the segments u cancraft (and urs dont sound that good btw) then use them. They do make your armor light. However krayt segments that are better than crafted segments are real rare.

For Krayt Scales (segment enhancer- can be used in any armor): These are pretty cool for lower level armors. For instance I wear for everday running around (instead of clothes) a kraytscale enhanced Mabari chest plate. The scale actually takes away a lot of vulnerablilities of low level armors like mabari for instance. Mabari, which is usually vuln to energy, wont be with a krayt enhanced chest. I mean the chest plate I wear is 32% resist to kinetic for only a measly 9 mind encumb and 70 health encumb. So if im surveying or something it doesnt effect me, but if a punk Mauler or Gungan (I despise Gungans) sneaks up on me while Im surveying, it'll take half the damage away-assuming they hit in the chest. I actually used a Krayt scale to make my RIS helm to take away the acid vulnerability but a lot of people advise against this because it pushes almost all stats into special protection- which makes an effective slice virtually useless (and of course this happened to my RIS helm.)

To answer your question in short, no you will not raise your base by 57. Of the top of my head, my triple layered comp segments are 38% base i believe? (that might be my ubese kinetic). It's either that or 28. Assuming I used your segments what would normally be 69 base composite would be 49 or 50 base. Thus it would be drastically worse. Sux but its true.

I have to disagree with the previous poster .

I love making krayt enhanced ubese / wookiee armor. I make these armors for friends in the game and they love them. The krayt scales make ubese vulnerable to only stun and they make wookiee armor a little better. As far as Krayt Segments go .. they make extremely light weight high condition armor. So even though they protect less you regen a lot faster and your specials cost you less to perfom. People like doctors love the krayt suits i make just because the mind encum is so amazingly low and they still get good protection.

I stand corrected. Ubese could be improved as well. Good one, especially since an effectiveness slice is useless anyway on ubese. As far as the krayt segments go, again depending on the base %, i can make unlayered comp better thatn I can make krayt segment comp. That is light as heck too.I've never tried it and made the comparison but from the base 10% krayt segs ive seen, I know it's true.

This is exactly my point. Krayt scales would be awesome if there were no such thing as slicing. Now take your helm which is great by the way, not flaming just proving a point... Let's say you geta

1. 25% effective slice w/out Krayt Scale

Because your base is 69, that would mean yourbase stats would be 86, and your encumbrance would be 297 Mind.

2. 25%effectiveness slice w Krayt Scale

Your Restraint stat will go to to 86% only, all other resists and encumbrance would stay the same at 80, Mind is 297. The slice has virtually no effect and your base stats are lower than what they could have been.

3. 30% encumbrance slice w/out Krayt Scale

Base Resists at 69, Mind encumb to 206.

4. 30% encumbrance slice w Krayt Scale

When using a Krayt scale you are praying for an encumbrance slice. This will make the"base" stats at 80 like in the screenie and your mind at 206.

So we see thatoverall I would say that number 4 is the best helm of all four, butnumber 2 is the worst of the four. So when you're using Krayt scales pray for thatencumbrance slice!

I made some 51% Energy Kashyyykian Ceremonial with some nice scales. A one-use armor for a wookiee on the corvette perhaps. *cough*

Here is the one thing though that I have heard - even though your stats go up, anything over 80% protection still protects at 80%

In other words, a slice does nothing but make you think you have better armor than you got, in that case...

I have 10 26% base krayt composite segments, which like the first poster's have no ham cost. What kind of armor can I expect from these and how much of it can be made?
