I've currently looted some NS armor segments as was wondering what kind of armor they can make, and if it is even worth making? I think it makes comp armor, but please enlighten me.
I don't remember all the stats, but I do remember that the mind encumbrance was -23, and the encumbrance bonusto health and action was in the teens somewhere.

Nightsister Shards is what is sounds like from your vague description.
Shards can be added to -any- armor segment. How many segments are needed for any piece of armor and if they need to be identical (factory run) varies from armor to armor. However if you have a lot of the shard with the same serial number, they can be used in the bigger armor pieces (chest, legs, helm).
Shards do nothing except lower the HAM on that single armor piece (which can be rather significant).

Now this is silly, some "onestarninja" gave Ainwyn 1 star for answering the original posters question to the letter! Can't let that happen.
To the original poster:
A small list of how many segments are used in each piece of armour. To get indentical pieces you need to sacrifice 1 enhancer to get a schematic which can be run through a factory, so add 1 to the listed amount of segments.
Composite:
gloves: 1 seg (can be handmade)
bracers/biceps/boots: 2 segs each (indentical)
pants/helm: 3 segs each (indentical)
chest: 4 segs (indentical)
Padded:
gloves/bracers/biceps/boots: 1 seg each (can be handmade)
pants/helm: 3 segs each (indentical)
chest: 4 segs (indentical)
Ubese:
gloves: 1 seg (can be handmade)
bracers/boots: 2 segs each (indentical)
pants/helm: 3 segs each (indentical)
chest: 4 segs (indentical)
So if you got say 7 shards and want composite helms made with it you use 1 for the schematic and get a maximum of 6 segments to play with (counting no fails). You may then make yourself 2 light helms.

Replace ever case of "indentical" with "identical" when reading my post. Copy - paste is your friend, but also your enemy it seems. Sorry
