Thread: Armor Segments/Enhancers

I'm not an armorsmith so please bear with me.

I read the armorsmith FAQ on this but it didn't really answer my question.

Does anyone actually use any of this loot to make armor that people would use and not just for decoration (why would anyone fight in a 50-100 million dollar suit of RIS).

Should I keep any of this stuff to either sell or use in a custom suit of composite armor.

Thanks

enhancers are better than segments most of the time

most smiths can make segments that are better than the loot drops. The segments enhancers add to what the mith can craft. For composite, janta hides are good (they add to base without pushing into special resist that is not sliceable), or NS layers and shards (layers can add to base while lowering HAM and shards can lower HAM).

krayt scales, rancor hides and voritor scales are usually good for stuff like wookie armor, padded and others and not used much in composite unless they are better than average.

While the loot that exists is a good idea, not much of it gets used. Great Krayt Segments can make some nice, light, 90% Composite after a slice while the Krayt Scales can make some useful Mabari.

Janta enhancements and NS enhancements are wonderfully useful for making good armor (NS is preferred).

As far as keeping or selling goes, you probably won't ever NEED lightweight 90% NS composite because you can getwearable90% adv composite since buffs make everything possible. So you should probably sell them. Since I like to make other stuff besides Composite, I'd keep them to tinker with.

Most of the armor I make is low HAM, so take these comment with that in mind. Other armorsmiths may have very different criteria.

I find NS Shards have the widest uses. Besides the obvious composite armor application, using NS shards in Padded armor arms, gloves and boots can go a long way to making Padded armor wearable. The bonus is that since these pieces only require 1 segment, you don't need to burn shards on the schematic.

I findJanta Hides to be useful if I can get them at a good price (I have no combat skills).

I use Krayt Scales in Wookie armor.

I use Voritor Scales (enhancement) in Chitin since I have a few customers who like this combination.

I will use Rancor Hides if the Base is 5% or higher. When this occurs, the HAM is also lower. The normal hides are worthless to me due to the high HAM cost.

I will use Rancor Padded Segments if the Base is 20% or higher. If the base is less, I'll save my credits and make my own which will be about as good.

The high base NS layers have some interesting uses, but usuallyfind the prices too high to pass on. The normal NS layers have uses when a customer has specific requirements. I had one customer that wanted no-buff,unslicedcomposite armor. He had a Stamina cap of 400. I made a suit with NS shards and layers, which met his needs (but it cost a bundle to make: I needed80 NS layers after schematics and failures).

I have yet to find akrayt segment in my price range that I wanted to use.

I consider the other segments and enhancements to be worthless.

I use Voritor Scales for Adv. Chitin...I'm almost at the 70% Kinetic mark It's nice because Chitin requires similiar segments so you don't need to haveidentical segments. I've also messed around with Brackaset Plates in Adv. Padded and made some 80% blast stuff...but I don't know if there's a market for it
