I've been working with a smith recently on a RIS helmet and my ultimate goal is to get a full suit of armor with decent resistance and as low hams as possible(ideally my goal is about 75-80% resistance with 200-300 total hams for the full suit). Just to give you an idea of what we're working with the RIS helmet I had crafted this week was...
80% kinetic
4% stun
76% base
32/0/94 hams(28% encumbrance slice)
What I'm looking at now are what it takes to reach roughly those same effectivness stats on the smaller pieces(gloves, boots, biceps, bracers) but to achieve 0/0/0 hams on them. What kind of layers/shards are we looking at. I'm interested in either Composites, RIS, or Padded for my suit. On the biceps and bracers I don't think that composite looks good so I'd be looking at either RIS or Padded on those probably(not sure how padded looks). Chest plate I think I"d like to be either padded or RIS, boots can be pretty much anything I think, as well as gloves.
Anyways I know that this is going to basically be server specific for exact stats, but I know that you guys would have a pretty good idea of roughly what layers and shards etc... would be required in order to hit those stats for the various armor types. Also I do have several 8% yellow cubes that i have no problems throwing in here if needed. I just want to get an idea of what kind(rough stat range)of looted components will be required.

Padded bracers/ boots looks great, and can be made 0/0/0 using NS loot (I'm wearing 0/0/0 padded boots, only for the look) but stats will be funny. If you have some really good NS stuff , you can make very low-HAM composite, but it eats too much layers/shards. I like tocraft R.I.S. as I can use every single layer, and it's easy to get very low-HAM . My lightest helm is 80% kin and 0/0/55 HAM

And my best helmet was 80kin/90% base and 0/0/125 or so, it was a good slice.

A thing of beauty. Even down to the 4 sockets. Fantastic work.

I think I saw that on display in someones shop(arox's?) at some point. but what kind of layers/shards did it take to create something like that?

I made it, used to display it by my vendors back when Arox and I were in UT. Talk to me ingame about how it was made, I can reproduce it (already used the other segments from that run though).
