Thread: So how would you create a very low HAM kinetic armor?

I have an odd habit thats been hard to break. I like to fight unbuffed and do it as a melee'er. So I need the help of some armor. Since you get an automatic 50% reduction in damage if the creature fighting you is hitting with AP0 weapons and your wearing AP1 armor high levels of protection arent that important low ham is key.

So far I have made Krayt Scaled Mabari with 15k durability, a cost of 60 to my substats(full suit including helmet) and 15% to kinectic

Lots of Voritor enhanced bone armor to move kinectic from vuln to special. Full suit has a cost of around 115 HAM for 6% kin

Kliknik Enhanced Chitin which gives me 16%-20% to kinectic and in some cases like my boots and gloves have a HAM cost of 0/4/1 after a HAM slice but overall the full suit (no helmet but bracers and biceps) weighs in at 130 to substats

Excluding the Mabari I usually wear a mini-suit of boots, chest and gloves. And i add the mabari krayt helmet for those things that like to target the brain pan.

So what im looking for is suggestions on how you as Armorsmiths would go about creating the best kind of low HAM armor. This excludes RIS as that would be just insane to waste for this kind of work even with the low HAM costs. I do look for materials that are high OQ/Mall above all else when making up these suits as well. But i've thought about playing with NS layers since they lower HAM costs. And I have a schematic for Acklay Bone (Master AS needed for that one) which i was thinking thatmight be to heavy even with red cubes.

So ideas for an unusual request?

Here is the link to the main discussion in the ranger forum:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=87257

Also to add some more information from this linked thread:
Now everyone might be aware of this information, but I just thought I would add it for discussion purposes.

Accarggm
Garrmorl
Voritor Segment or scaled bone armor experimented all for durability (lowers HAM and raises condition 2 for 1 deal)

The voritor segments are found on bazaars cheap and can be given to an engineering 4 artisan who will gladly make the suit for you and amazed you even asked. The Accargm and Garrmorls price can be lowered quite a bit by giving your local chef high OQ scaley hide. These two foods are the primary thing that will keep you alive as they boost your top 6 stats for 40 minutes. Even if you get non-BE enhanced on those two foods it will be enough to keep you alive in the field. Flipside is if your a RiflePerson (for all the ladies out there id hate to anger) you can just get by with the good old brandy's you've been using since day 1.

Why Voritor Bone Armor? Well as has come up in the replies since its AP1 and 6% to kinectic it will reduce the damage you take from kinectic AP0 creatures by 56% for the cost of very low HAM. If you find a new person whos leveling up Armorsmith get Mabari or Chitin thats been experimented for HAM as well. There is a section in the guide about bartering for what you need. And this really rings true here

The segments

Voritor Segment/Voritor Scales - Bone armor has no kinectic protection by itself (I have a theory about this but thats offtopic). But when an artisan uses a Voritor Segment or uses the scales as an option while making the armor they can add 6% kinectic (it varies but 95% of time its 6%) to the armor

Krayt Scales - lower HAM costs. I used a set in mabari to make a full suit that only cost 60 to my substats. Most krayt scales are normally deleted by the hunters or dumped on the bazaars

Kiliknik Segments/Enhanced Kliknik segments - Fall off of Klikniks for normal and the enhanced only drop in the Geo Lab. These work in Chitin armor to lower HAM cost of the armor. Normal ones are -7 and enhanced are -15 to the stats. You dont need to kill high end klikniks to get the normal ones as i found out teaching unbuffed fighting to a guildie. They fell off of the workers

NS Layers/Shards - Lower HAM cost and like krayt scales are usually discarded by the Nightsister hunters are virtually worthless. In fact theres even a thread on the AS forums about someone saying they are worthless.

Im really starting to rethink the cost issue or working on a subguide on how to fight unbuffed without food/drink/spice or only artisan foods. This would also go under the idea that base mabari which is AP1 and has kinectic in it by default with no additives can be had very cheaply. As well as the fact the mabari chest covers biceps and bracers area (although for a cool look chitin biceps can be worn OVER mabari)

I make for myself NS padded boots with HAM 0/0/0 or1/0/1 and base 40% or so. Looks great and condition is OK.

NS shard + three 2/2/2 2% base 5% kinetic layers + encumbrance slice

I have a FULL suit like this with 80 kin 65 base 74 electrical with ~270 HAM across the board.

Unsliced suits using decent shards usually have 400 HAM or so.

this is the best you'll get using non-exceptional loot.

Another excellect alternative would be encumbrance sliced 80% ubese made with krayt scales.... if you had GOOD krayt scales with 10% or so kinetic you could use a 5/5/5 kinetic layer with 4% kinetic... suit would be very light, wouldnt last as long as the NS comp though.

Nice reinforced kliknik shells work well for chitin too. i have a suit with 38% kinetic resists and about 300 HAM unsliced. like 25k cond too.

EDIT:

Oh yes... dont forget RIS layers too.... used in conjunction with padded or comp and GOOD ns shards you can make 0/0/0 ham gloves/boots/bracers/biceps. my RIS comp has 67% base resists (with the high MA materials). /shrug dont know about other servers though

I just like sticking with ubese for high kinetic low encumb. I have a nice stock of 77% kinetic stuff, with HAMs all in the mid 300's unsliced. Works very well if you don't want a buff, or even if you are buffed if you use a high ham cost weapon, for rifleman and swordsman especially, helps a bunch to not kill yourself with your own specials.

See HAM costs in the 3's and 400's is to high. If you notice what i said my full suits weigh in around 150HAM. Wearing a 300-400 ham suit no matter what its protection would kill my unbuffed HAM and regen stats.

RIS layered composite with decent nightsister shards is a nice idea. I just use 5-6% base nightsister layers and shards. You will get pretty good resists with a low ham and if you get encumbrance slices on them it would be right about where your HAM is now that you are using. I made a full somposite all NS suit and got about 63% base with kinetic and it was about 250 HAM and less. I never did get it sliced and it hangs on my wall but in theory it could be as low as 165 HAM or as high as 85% base. either way it would make 1 hell of a pve suit.
