I heard a rumor that stated that you could change composite armor into any type of armor in the conversion, is that true?

For example, since my profession can only wear recon armor, I would be able to change my composite into one of the 3 types of recon armor?

If this is true, I need to get my factories hopping to produce as much composite as I have time to make, so I will have a fully stocked vendor after the conversion.
