Hi all. I'm new to Armorsmith (only 2/0/0/0 new
) and although I really don't have a right to make suggestions compared to the veterans of Armorsmith, I felt like giving my two credits.
The Crafting Process
1. Remove the need for so much hide. Some armors need leathery (Bone and Chitin come to mind) but most, like Kashyykian which is made of solid piecesof wood/metaland Composite which looks like flexible metal/plastic, really have no use for hide. Maybe more synthetic cloth or fiber panels, but hide seems less important in higher level armors.
2. Move Armor Padding from Tailor to Armorsmith. Simple logic formula: Armor Padding is used in armor and armor only, so why can't Armorsmiths make it?
3. Lessen the number of segments needed and focus on layering. Armors have Special Protection for a reason, right? Then why does Composite block everything as good or better (with an awsome slice) than it's Special Protection? This would also allow lesser armors to have achance against Composite if they each focused on one damage type with decent/below average protection against other types.
4. Less repeats in Special Protection. Related to the above statement. The layerless armors: Bone, Chitin, Kashyykian, and Mabari, block Energy, Kinetic, Kinetic, and Heat respectively for Special Protection. The layered armors: Tantel, Ubese, Padded, and Composite, block against Energy, Kinetic, Blast, and Electricity. There are so many damage types in the game that each Armor type should have a unique area of Special Protection.
The Armor Itself
This is more a rant than a list. The Devs, when they added bio-engineered clothing/food and moduled (sp?) droids, left out Armorsmiths. Why not add modules to armor to increase the stats of the wearer in battle or add different kinds of protection? Ubese is an enviromental suit, why not be able to add a unit to protect from disease andpoisonand other DOTs? Composite looks like a powersuit, why can't it increase speed and accuracy in combat? Padded is, what else, padded, so why not add protection against dizzy, stun, and knockdown? Plus these things could need recharging like with a droid battery (an armor battery made at Engineering 4 comes to mind) or they wouldn't work, removing themfrom making the user truely uber.
Lastly...
The Rare and Legendary Armors
Stormtrooper/Marine - Although a player can buy pieces like before, a factioned AS can buy a limited use schematic and craft it himself, maybe with the modules proposed above.
Bounty Hunter/Maurader - Make these armors effective. Seeing how you can only get them though looting and quests (looting for BH, quests for Maurader), at least let the people who took the time to get them be protected better than 16-30% with lots of vulnerabilities.
RIS - RIS Armor needs to be useful, to have a purpose for being made. That, or it could be slightly easier to get the rare components. RIS could have ports for enviromental filtering, protective padding, and power enchancements (like choose two out of three) as well as having resists to justify the hassle of crafting it. If this doesn't work, at least make the four loot drops needed for RIS be droppable from all higher level kinds of creatures (Gurks, Woolamanders, Peko Pekos, and Kimogilas) that drop them compared to almost non-occuring drops from insanely tough boss level mobs.
Mandalorian - Make Mandalorian worth the death and bloodshed of your group members.Make it only craftable by Armorsmiths (why Tailors and Droid Engineers are involved is beyond me) and make it uber in the extreme. Padded, filtered, and enchanced with massive base and lightsaber resistance. Anything less is not worth the difficulty of getting to the DWB and battleing down to the bottom floor to craft it.
Well, my rant is done. I know I'll get flamed for some of this, but I needed to speak my opinion. Thank you all for your time.

So new, yet you've stated all the things we've been trying to do for months.
Welcome to the profession.

Well let's take a look at reality.
Okay, modules in armor. Well it sounded to me that you were referring to these modules adding more percentages to the protections like kinetic and such. Well, master armorsmiths can make kinetic composite up to 80% protection and then itcan even be sliced up to 90%! That's almost invulnerable to kinetic damage. There is no purpose for it being higher. I know npc's have 100% kinetic protection (for example: super battle droids) but they are npcs and do the same attacks day in and day out, kinetic. With 80s kinetic protecting armor they do next to nother almost to ya. It's not much fun to have no challenge at all. If it were to go as high as to get 100% in a composite suit, it would make pvping almost impossible. Tkm do low damage at a fast rate in compared to some weapons. Basically a 90% turns their blows into slight slaps lol.
Okay, hides:
Hides are needed so much cuz hides are basically only used in armor in this game lol. I know scouts use them in tents and such and they can be used in medical equipment but meds aren't good with hides; they need meat and foods to be effective. If the devs made armorsmithing without soo much hides, it would be alot easier to grind to master. In my opinion it's simple to grind to master, I've made 4022 armorsmith in 2 days of grinding. All you need: lots of leathery hide, syntheticcloth, and chemicals (fiberplast, ect.). And it's been LOTS easier to get my hands on tons of hide. What's hard, find a good vendor that sells tons of synthetic cloth. Otherwise make it yourself but then you need to spend a lot on a factory, gather enough resources to make it, and spend power, credits, and time setting it all up. Hides are fine in my opinion to keep in it. Hard part: finding good hide. But then again, finding good resources is just as hard and just as much money.
Next, Legendary and special looted armor:
These need to be extremely hard to get your hands on, otherwise you see the whole population with RIS armor with legendary stats (referring to making RIS better) and the same old armor in pvp and pve day in and day out.
Mando armor: It needs to be tough to make. Otherwise same goes here, tons of peeps running around in the same armor day in and day out. I'm sure it will become easier to make this stuff over time but if you have a good comp suit, why go to the trouble and maybe more money and time at making a mando suit?
Lastly, multiple profession requirements for components:
Well, I kinda agree with ya here. What's the point of having things from other profs being made by them and not us are armorsmith? But here's what I figure, you have all the components for armor in armorsmith= tons of armor being easily made. Anoverflow in the market wold happen in other words and that would be making it a bit too easy to make armor again.
And I think it would be a bit easier to get the components for kashy. armor because you just need one thing from a tailor while to make personal shields require things from master artisan.
I'm not flaming ya, just stating a few points. I like your ideas and with some more time and thinking in them, you could make logical points and good ones at that.
Either way tho, it's your opinion on what should be done and many other's opinions are the same.Thismy opinion.
Good luck in armorsmithing. All I've done in grinding was mabari chestplates. Very easy to make compared to other things and not extremely hard finding the resources (save the time on vendors looking for synth.cloth).

All I was saying about RIS is that it should be worth the trouble it takes to craft it. Currently the only way to make good RIS is to loot/buy the best dropped components in the game(likeexeptional and legendary Nightsister Layers and Krayt Scales)ontop of the required loot drops needed to initially make the armor. With all of this expensive and rare gear you still make RIS armor that is between high end Padded and an average Composite suit. What I was trying to say was that RIS should be worth the trouble needed to make it (ie: better resistances and condition). My statement about more frequent loot drops is ONLY if RIS maintains it's current resistances and condition (which ranges between 30-40% Kinetic, 3-60% Base, with random instances of Stun and Acid protection and 36000-45000 max condition).
Concerning the Mandalorian issue, all the screenshots I have seen have exhibited resistances no better than basic Padded Armor with HAM costs equal to Composite, and at least three or four vulnerabilities. I wasn't saying make it easier to craft (this is the DWB we're talking about), just make it worth the effort. You have to traverse the highest level dungeon in SWG to make what is basically a suit of armor thatanyArmorsmithcan make at Personal Armor 4 at much less risk of bodily harm and less money. Not to mention that a critical failurewouldnotbe a Greek tragedy.
As for the modules, I'm talking about new components that add special abilities and qualities, not extra resistences (in fact my #3-4 ideas outlined my opinions on that). It's just a little idea ofgiving the armors (at least Padded, Ubese, and Composite) a slightly more dynamic feel than just an anti-PVP/Krayt Dragon shell.

Yeah, composite has turned into that for sure. Either way, they were pretty good ideas and I'm sorry if my post sounded like a flame.
