I have, it does work, and makes some very nice and light armour. The wonderful thing with these is that you can boost the base resist and lower the encum, without adding anything to special resists. It also leaves the enhancement slot open for the item of your choice - add janta hide for the boost in base, or NS shards to watch the encum drop into the negatives.

Here is an example of a seg I made using 4%base/-2HAM RIS layers, and a 3% janta hide.

cool so ive not gone potty!!!

moreqs then, how many layers in comp armour? i know i should be able to work that out but as i said im not an as and do they have to be same serial or anything strange?

also what sort of encumb and resists would we be talking on a finished peice of armour compaired to a normal peice....im thinking of having some made with a nice base resist and ham as low as poss........how would the kinetic turn out?

sorry for the barrage of questions just got me quite excited now i know im not mad

So if I make a RIS layer, that gurk hide and peko feather, it wil make a higher base buy like 1-2% and much lower HAM, like krayt comp?

looking at the info here

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=armorsmith&message.id=42983

im thinking that klicknik shell is a good idea for the enhancment slot? boost the base AND reduce the ham

or is it not useable in comp?

how would a comp segment using one stun layer (to remove the vunrability) and 2 ris layers work out? would the ham still be nice and low?

would it be poss to boost the kinetic by using one kinetic layer and 2 ris?

im seriously concidering looking for bits to make a suit now

Ok, wasn't entirely clear on what I meant there. What I mean is that the RIS layers will boost the base resists in the same way normal layering does, but without adding any resists into special. Which is good for slicing purposes. I know that with the resources I have on chilly, I can make 4% base/-2 HAM layers. which translate to around 34%base, 20something (i think) ham segments.

(Also, a point, RIS layers only need Albatross feathers - gurk hides go into the RIS segments).

To answer you question from the other post first: Composite takes 3 layers. I would say the kinetic resist would turn out in the 67-70% range (pre-slice) assuming you don't have anything like Janta hide being used.

Kliknik shells replace chitin armour segments I'm afraid, so they can't be used in comp.

1 kinetic layer and 2 RIS could give you 80% kinetic resist, but at the expense of slightly lower base resist (again assuming you don't get it enhanced) and slightly higher enc.
Similarly with the Stun layering, though what would be better done in this instance is to get only 5% stun or so, and put the rest of the points into base and encum.

Another possible option you might consider is the use of 1 or more sets of NS layers, as these can have FAR higher base resists than anything an AS can craft. Drop a 9% layer in with 2 RIS and your choice of a Shard or Janta hide, and I guarantee you'll be drooling at the results (though you'll lose out on stun resist, so it's better to put that in for the pants).

cool thanks for the help i may pop back with more questions later

ive just quickly logged on and ran back to a couple of vendors and bizarres where i remembered seeing some janta hides cheap and bought the lot (1 lot of 7, 2 of 4, 2 of 5, 1 of 3) and only spent about 30k on em....and thats enough to do a whole suit if my maths is correct and i even remembered that one from each set will be used to make a schematic....so a couple of weeks of farming piko feathers and in the meen time ill ponder whether or not to splash out on some ns layers or to go with pure ris.....low encumb high base here we come

oh yeah one more q ....sorry

does the quality of the cloth and fibre panel make any difference to anything???

also looking at the schematic for both those (on swgcraft.com) it says they both have an optional 'biological component'.....any idea what that is and what affect it has?

quality on synth and RFP does nothing go with your most crappy resources

Teh optional bio comp is where they put BIO enhancers but they dont shine thfrough in armor so dont worry about em :-P

I've thought about doing this... then i remembered... oh yeah i have tons of nightsister layers that are WAY better.

I guess it's good to have something to do with those crappy peko feathers, but then you need layer resources etc.... sounds like too much effort.

Furia, Kavala, Xana, Tarantella (Xana's alt, before NGE), all cancelled.(3 accts total)

I agree NS layers are great.....but a 4+% alyers with negative encumb to all stats is very very nice I think :-)
and yes it gives us someting to use those pesky feathers for.. :-)

RIS layers also add durability where NS layers do not. At least I think they don't

I made a bunh of 0 HAM w/70 base gloves using RIS Layers

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=147211

Havent done much beyond that. Depending on how much peko feathers go on your server (40-50k on mine) it really isnt a very cost effective set.

However, I would have liked to make an ultra low HAM 70 base set for display.
