Thread: Kinetic vs. Energy vs. balanced: Your opinion?

I'm wondering what y'all's opinions are on what classes/templates/play styles would benefit most from armor with a kinetic protection focus versus an energy one, or just armor with a balance of protection (unlayered, primus, etc.).

I've been making the new armor for my guildmates, and I've been recommending kinetic or primus for the tanks, primus for those who do a lot of PVP or factional (NPC) hunting, and unlayered standard or advanced core for the ranged people who don't tank. Am I on base here?

Seems like sound advice. My personal preference depends on how many suits of armor the person plans on having. If only one, I recommend primus or unlayered. If two, I try to schew them towards high energy and high kin within the armor types they can wear.

For example, if a BH/Pistoleer who planned on doing a lot of PVP and jedi hunting were to approach me, I'd recommend either energy or primus recon and unlayered or primus assault to cover their bases. The assault for pve hunting, and the recon for Jedi hunting...

The people I'm thinking of are a Wookiee CH and a human Swordsman. Battle armor for both. The Swordsman (well, Swordswoman) was interested in primus because she also does some factional fighting, but the CH is mostly non-factional PVE as far as I know. I'm going to recommend he try something else, just not sure what. On a human I'd say "advanced cores, no layers," but since Wookiee are missing some pieces, I'm not sure what to offer.

problem here is that certain attacks from critters are energy as well instead of the regular kinetic...

I personally think that a full energy suit is only good for BHs, pure kinetic for mmm nothing much except if you are really sure you won't run into anything with energy attacks (even quenkers can do energy). And primus is your all around good suit I think.

Opinions?

ok i am copy and pasting this from another post i did earlier....

ok its pretty simple if you think in terms of the armor as a whole...you need to know the three types and what they are good for...

ARMOR

Assault... kinetic oriented armor(meaning it is more geared towards kinetic and can get higher in kinetic then the other 2 counterparts)

Battle... this armor is balanced armor... you can swing it either way but wont be strongest at either...

Recon.... this armor is basically energy oriented armor...

LAYERS

well I personally use only 3 types....

Primus.... this is an advanced piece of layer... it will raise up both pretty evenly and pretty high... but will not excel one of the resists as a single resist layer would...(secondus and tertius dont bother... they are advanced but only for secondary resists)

Kinetic.... I use this on all three armor but like i said the best armor for kinetic is assault... i personally have gotten mine up to 7800 kinetic resist but that is with crappy scaley hide...

Energy.... again Recon is best for this... i have gotten my armor with recon armor up a little over 8k...

Note: well if you have the resources and time.. i would definitely use all 4 slots for armor layers as that boosts up your resists a lot... but will also take up resources

as for placing the layers to balance the energy and kinetic strong armors i usually use 1 primus and 3 Kinetic(recon) or 3 energy(assault).... this will get the armor to balance out...

ok i made 2 pieces... one with 4 energy layers and one with the minimum of 1 per segment... the 4 layer one came to 8078 energy resist... the single layer came to 7281 now that is both final product... so it is up to you but 8k is still better then 7200k whether it be 4 or 5% more that is still 4 or 5% less damage taken... its up to you

it really depends on the armor you use... and what role you are taking... for hunting well if you do fight all kinetic mobs... ie. gurks... well assualt is best... use nothing but kinetic layers... now i can say that for bh's well i would highly suggest they use recon... if they cant use recon i would suggest battle next... if they have to use assualt armor well stuff 4 energy layers in it and get it as high as you can get it...

for pvp well you cant switch armor during combat so i would suggest a more balanced armor... and battle is already balanced... but like i said above if you want to balance out assualt use one primus and 3 energy layers... for recon use 1 primus and 3 kinetic layers...

Hope this helps
