I recently got about 8 krayt armor enhancements that had about 7-8% on kinetic, cold, heat, blast, etc. I used these to make 7 adv composite segements with 1 kinetic protection layer. With those I made a chestplate and a helmet. They turned out terrible. Maybe 50% on kinetic and mid 30s to mid 40s on everything else.

When I made the exact same thing without the krayt enhancers (adv comp segments with1 kinetic layer)I got 63 kinetic, 62 elec, 51 the rest. Did I do something wrong the first time around or is there some kind of trick to using armor enhancements?? Thanks

Im kinda new to the higher level armor, but something doesnt sound right there, I made a helmet with decent resources, and krayt segments, not the enhancers, which i hear are usually worthless, and these were not the best, i think only like 15% base, adn i still hit around 60% on everything, no specials though.

I think the problem you are seeing here is different experimentation in your examples. Experiment on base and the newly added specials will also rise with it. Oh, and once you have maxed base on your final combine, put atleast one other point into either special or encumbrance to get the numbers right.

Or did you accidentaly chose composite segment instead of adv composite in your first try? (yes, I did see what you stated). For later, when you are not useing lootdrops, try testing new things with gloves instead of larger items, since gloves can be handmade and save you a bit of time.

Do note that if you use krayt scales almost all the resists will move to special protection and will not be affected by an effectiveness slice, hence the market for this kind of composite is smaller. Try thoose scales in some decent ubese and you might hit 80% kinetic, which will probably sell very well indeed!
