I just burned through the last of my awesome hides trying to figure this out. How many points do I put into each field when making 80% comp out of 4x4 layers. I never end up with enough kinetic now. I'll always get great base sure, but I burned through 10 experiments not getting above 70% kinetic on them. And I hope there's an answer otherwise I have 200 segments to throw away.

If I make 80% Kinetic Comp I always do two layers @ 11% Kinetic 2% Base and then max out the base at 25% on my segments
At least thats what my resources make. It keeps the HAM lower by not using 3 layers, so I dont have to put many points into experimenting HAM. With those segments I can get 80% Kinetic Comp with 58% Base and Low HAM.

You've already run the segments? You have to balance the layers and the segments/armor to get to 80% kinetic. The trick is just barely kissing the 80% point while getting as much base as possible. At least that's what I aim for. (With a couple points in durability on each combine also.)

Ifind this quite odd, personally i find that 3 layers is much lower than 2 for the same or better %

ie i can make 3 layers at 4/4/4 2%base 7%kinetic

or 2 layers at 13/13/13 2%base and 14%kinetic (which is max iirc?)

3 layers = 12/12/12

2 layers = 26/26/26

Three 2/6 1/1/1 layers for my low HAM 80% Kinetic and I get base of around 62%.

Three 4/4 Kineticlayers for 71% base 80% Kinetic armor.

Two 4/5 Kinetic layers and one 4/10 Energy layer for 80% Kinetic/80% Energy/70% Base Armor.

Frankly, there are several ways to hit 80% Kinetic. Oh, and to the two layer guy...WRONGO!!!! I make 80% Kinetic with total HAM cost of under 1500 using 3 Kinetic layers. What's the HAM cost on your 2 layers 80% Kinetic?

I believe he said he was a 10 point smith. 2/6 1/1/1 kinetic layers are impossible to make for 10 point smiths.

Heck, it's impossible for many 12 point smiths. I can't do it with my resources. That's the art of armorsmithing. It might be better to use 2 segments or 3 as far as HAM goes. It just depends on the resources you have at the time.

Ive tried the 2 layer method for saving costs but the HAM does take a hit.

IF your segments are made with good enough resources you can make 4% base 4% kinetic and still hit 80/80/70% base with decent to normal ham. What your lacking is decent resources plain and simple. You will have to take a hit on at least one of your layers to hit 80% if your capping at 70 now. Try making 4% kinetic x 2 and 7% kinetic on a third. mix and match up the third layer to bring you up to par. And when you do run em, run 2 k 4% layers and 1k 7% layers. do not experiment on the ham on the third layer, just hit the min you can have to hit 80% and then toss the rest in base. The other two identical layers just cap out base and toss rest in ham. That will and should get you the desired effect.

Method: make two schematics of the 4% and start them cooking, when you get 10 of each done, pull them out and then start hand crafting the third layer and segment itself, then just make gloves to test it before you do the final build. Make sure you hit 80% with at least 1 pt to spare or you might run into a problem when you make the rest of the pieces as gloves tend to cap 1% higher if your at the tip of a peak. I have had this before when i thought i had enough base % to make 64% base 40% stun comp by testing on gloves just to find out all the rest of the pieces come out 63 % post 2k segments , you can cut down the qty if you dont got the stuff or time to make 2k segments.

Another method you should find useful, make a suit of comp with no layers, putting all experiment points into the base on the segments and final combines. Now look at the lowest resist piece of armor, prob gloves or sometimes helm/legs, depending on your resources.

Lets say it's 52% base (This is about what I do, need some better hide and intrusive ) This means that to get the kinetic to 80 you need at least 28% kinetic on your segments (52% + 28% = 80%).

If you make 4/4 layers, max the base resistance on your segments. When you experiment on the base (The middle bar) , the base and the kinetic wil go up. It sounds like you may have been experimenting onspecial resistanceinstead, which won't let you pull as high an overall resist. With my resources I hit about 31-32%Kinetic. I'm not sure what my base is, but I know it's 14% more than when I don't use layers.

The point is, after you max the base (Will probably only take 8 points or so) look at the kinetic resist. If the kinetic resist + the base resist of your worst piece of unlayered armor (52% above) = 80% or better, you did it. Then if you've got any points leftover put em into HAM.

When doing the final combine make sure you max the base resist, don't bother putting points intospecial resistance at thatpoint, because you already got your magic number, so put extra points in HAM.

On a side note (this post is getting a little long...sorry) if you want 80 Kinetic and 80 Electric, then after you put points into the base on your segments and hit your magic number, look at the electric resistance. Experiment the bottom bar until the electric gets to the same magic number, then your final combine wil automatically be 80 Kin/80 Elec.

Good Luck!

Oh, I'm a putz, messed up the stats above.

My segments are 31-32% BASE and 14% Kinetic. So to figure out the kinetic on your final combine, take the base effectiveness of your non-layered segments (I think mine are 17%). If 17% segs got me 52 % base on my unlayered armor, then before the seg is factored in the armor's base is 35%. So look at the base on your kinetic segments. Add that to the 35% (Or whatever your number is) and that's your new base (66-67% for me). THEN, add the kinetic resist of the layer (14% for me). Then you've got your kinetic. As you can see, I just barely hit 80 doing that, but I don't waste any points in kinetic on the layers. If you want to do 80 electric as well, then in my example you want to experiment the special effectiveness on the segs to 14% as well.

Reply if some or all of this doesn't make sense, I may have mixed some folks up with the above post....
