One of the reasons I like tailor so much is because of the face-to-face interaction I have with most of my customers, so I try for the same thing with my armor customers. Lots of people in this forum have also talked about how one of the best things about post-CU armor crafting is the "equality" of different appearances within each class of armor and how this has led to more variety in what people are asking for and actually wearing.
So, to encourage this even more (ftf interaction, wearing different styles) how about this: sell armor cores full price and offer to make the appearances free of charge to the customer's specifications?
Comments?

I do that with BH schematics.
Never thought about doing it with cores, because I'm prolly gonna have to explain to the customersthat 5601 cores don't make 6001 armor...

Nice to do that and all but if you have a busy shop then it will be like waiting in line at the supermarket or grocery and let's face it alot of customer's are impatient that when you tell them custom order will take a XXX days you get the answer back "You mean you can't make it now?!?!"
It's not a bad idea but for me it's not feasable atmmy average day running from planet to planet collecting resources, coming back to my workshop creating final appearence by hand etc etc etc. Maybe with the factory colour bug fixed I can afford to consult but let's face it most time that people are talking to you they are either grinding or waiting for a group.
Another factor I would be considered about is speaking to this customer for 1hr and I tell them the price they will say "Oh (insert free armour comment, discount line etc etc here)"

I price everythign by the core already
It is a slow process. I make 2-3 suits a week these days, but I enjoy it much more than just cranking out factory runs of suits. It is all about what you want out of it.
Cheers!

I only do face to face customs. Only my repeat customers email in all their orders. I am even contemplating turning my alt into a pure crafter as well. Then I will be a f2f Artisan/Armorsmith/Tailor/Architect and maybe even chef.

great idea. but i don't want another AS to just buy my cores and make the armor. i know that is not cost effective, but some don't care, or will mark it up

I used to do something similar. I used to carry my cores and my resources and a crafting droid to popular spots and advirtise making them armor on the spot. I'd carry everything from grind to +50 health cores and would make it to their specifications on the spot. I did that alot when I was new and it really got my name out there a bit.
Of course, now, I don't dare log in until late at night or early morning so I can avoid the "tell hell" that just about every armorsmith lives in.![]()

Ditto, post-cu it is wise to price by the core. Cores now define armor and there is no point in not doing so. I do it also because I am getting fairly well known as a BH armor crafter. 9 out of 10 BH orders I do now are done either with their schems or at least with some schems being provided by the customer. So I now price BH armor by piece and core.

When I say I sell by the core, I mean I do custom armororders priced by the core. Aside from helping a few friends with cores for non-AS Mandalorian pieces, I never sell my cores for others to use.
