My guild has many old members coming back from WoW and other games, that haven't played since before CU. I need to create various suits of armor (all types) for them to grind with, basically something to fill our "armor hall" with. Cheap, inexpensive armor.
Do I need to master AS for this task? Or what trees can I take up, that will allow me to do my job?
thanks!

Depends on what your guild is willing to settle for. You could go 4004 AS but you'd be missing out on advanced battle and assault cores plus wookiee hunting armor. You also only have seven points to experiment with and not ten. So your armor would be pretty poor.
On the other hand, you could have your guild loot a lot of cores and just use those instead of crafted ones. And +20 to experimentation from CAs would get you two more points of experimentation to help the condition of the armor you made with the looted cores.

I would suggest MAS if you plan on making anything worth wearing. Once they grind up, they will need good armor to hunt loot with.

ask some MASs to craft some medium armor and giving you a discount.
why drop anything just to grind again ?
and it keeps economy up

You're gonna need MAS.
BUT, your friends will be up the trees and hitting Master <insert elite prof>in a few days anyway.
Plus, if you wanted to make half decent stuff and you don't have the resources yet, you're prolly gonna spend a lot of money collecting the resources anyway.
I don't know how many guys you have coming back, but if it's only a handful, Isuggest you just go out and buy the stuff. It's extremely easy making money these days anyway.
