Thread: Armor resource question

I think that is aboutwhat people on these boards call "gate" (I don't understand why).
example:
Go on SWGcraft and look for allPlexite Amorphous Gemstone references on your server.
1) 100% OQ > the max is close to 1000
2) 100% SR > the max is lower than 450 at least on my server
(so a sr:400 istaken as a889/1000 for a schematic requiring Plexite Amorphous Gemstone)
So an oq:900/sr:910 resource is potentially better than another withoq:910/sr:900
Sr:910 is closer to the max because this max is lower than 1000.
Well this is perhapsfalse for steel btw ...
oq:999 & sr:995 on my server are the top references
it goes a little further than this. The Gates only come into play when the specific resource is called for. With the above example yes, if the Schematic called for Plexite Amorphous Gemstone the SR would be equivelent to 889... but if the schematic calls for Amorphous Gemstones instead then the SR would still only be 400.
Being a fairly new smith, I've had questions about this as well, since some of my resources withalow OQ/SR averageseem to do better than my resources with a high OQ/SR average.
From the posts here, I think I now understand, so let me run it by you experts and you tell me if and where I'm off.
With the above example:
I pull Eciwa Plexite Amorphous Gemstone which is OQ 959, SR 410 and the best on my server. Since that average is going to be horrible on a 1000/1000 average, the game is going to grant me a "curve" and treat that 410 like it's a 1000 resource if I use it in a slot that specifically calls for Plexite Amorphous Gemstone.
However, if I use that same resourcewhere it just calls for any Amorphous Gemstone, my curve will be adjusted for the best Amorphous Gemstone on my server which could be OQ 990, SR 990. My Eciwa in this scenario is now garbage.
The only way I can find out what these "caps" are is to pull up each of these resource types on swgcraft.com and look for the best OQ and SR listed. Whenmining or buying resources, I want to shoot for those numbers rather than always looking to get as close to 1000/1000 as possible.
Does that seem to be a pretty good generic understanding of the system? I'm sure there's some more precise mathematical explanations for how it works, but I just need the layman's version. I'm sure I've passed up some really good resources simply because I saw a 400 number and assumed it was junk.
Thanks ahead of time for any insight offered.

Almost there but not quite. Gates are the Range of stats possible on a resources on Any server ever. I don't know what the gate is on Plexite Amorphous but for this example lets say SR gate is 300 - 450... This means Plexite amorphous spawning on any server will only ever spawn with a SR between 300 and 450.
So if you have a schematic that calls for Plexite Amorphous and yours has 450 SR by this example it is the same as 1000... if it only calls for Gems or Amorphous gems you still have 450... on the same token if you have 400 SR then 400/450 = 888.8/1000 or 889...
I have a link to the known gates at home sitting open on my Desktop. Unfortunately I'm at work right now if no one has posted it by the time I get home I will post it here.

Thank you. That was presented very well (which means it was simplified enough that even I could understand it), and the link was extremely helpful.
