Disclaimer: I'm not an armorsmith nor have I ever been one so I'm sorry if this question seems n00bish. I have read some of the RIS faq posts and the armorsmith crafting faq but I am still a little bit confused.
The way I understand it, it takes a total of 9 Reclusive Gurk King Hides, 9 Giant Dune Kimogila Scales, and 9 Woolamander Harrower Bone Fragments in order to complete a RIS suite without using RIS layers. (Actually 10 of each if you use a factory run).
In this post: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=armorsmith&message.id=47197
It says: "Every piece of RIS armor requires 1 RIS segment and 1 Giant Dune Kimogila Scale." Ok this is where I am confused, according to this it would take 18 Giant Dune Kimogila scales in order to complete a suite, one in each of the 9 segments, and one for each part of the suite. Can someome clarify this for me?

The GDK scale is not used in the segment, only final assembly.
So if you make a factory run of segments you'll need 10 gurk hides and 10 woolamander bones, but still only 9 gdk scales (1 for each RIS piece).

no you will need 10 of each
it takes one to complete the quest itself, so 9 if your local AS has already done quest

Ok I guess I'm confused. I re-read the original post and don't see anything in the question about materials needed for the quest. Besides which, if you want to count quest materials I'd think you should bump up the total amount of the other resources needed as well. So am I missing something?

you need the materials for a segment, a layer and a boot (needs another segment) to do the quest
after that you just need resouces/componets for 1 segment and the piece of armor. The gloves need less resources than a chest like in any other armor
all resouces needed are in that post
