Hi - looking for a little advice from folks who know armor better than anyone - you!

Specifically, I am looking for advice related to armor for use in my usual activities in the game. Specifically, I primarily PvE vs. relatively high end content (primarily Nightsisters other than elders, but want to solo elders once I am speed capped). I am a master swords/master doc and use Nightsisters as a means to generate income by selling the loot.

My impulse is to purchase the best armor I can find, which (I think) is 39% stun, 90% base. I also use a PSG, but would like to wear a belt with skill mods. I have paid quite a bit for this armor which cuts into my profit somewhat from the loot I get from the NS. Typically I pay around 3 mill for a full set. Even a couple percentages off the protection would be a significant savings. However, just from my uninformed perspective, if I can get an extra few percentage points of protection, I'll take them.

So, the question is basically what do you think? Am I missing anything here? Is there a reason why using such expensive armor is stupid? (assume I am willing to pay the extra cost if there is even a small advantage). I remember reading somewhere where such high stun really doesn't benefit that much, or at all, but can't remember where I read it. Would you recommend, for my purposes, that I use some different, lower spec armor?

Very basic question, I know. Thanks for your assistance.

Ili

Wow 39% stun and 90% base for 3 mill is a steal, The max un enhanced base on shadowfire is 66% with the max effective slice it only get us 89% on our server. And I've have sliced thousands of pieces of armor and only maybe got2 slices with max effectiveness. With enhancers it's possible to get 90% but I doubt any would make a full suit of it, due to randomness of slicing. You might want to check the stun resist again though it's probably at 27%. Now those are easier to do. And I've made full suits of those. Anyways, to answer your question if you need stun protection against NS. I would recomend using bare minimum as it the choking force powers that kills you not the stun battons they pull out. With the AR=1 and stun batton's AP=0 you have adequate protection.

So I would recomend you to contact your local AS and ask him to make you a suit of 2-Electric layer, 1-Stun layers experimented to max base then lower ham. You should come out with something like 70% base and 5% stun with HAM arround high 600 or low 700.

/Crossfingers Hope for effectiveness slices.

Also try this tell him to make only Chest,Helm, Boots, Gloves. To further reduce your ham to arround 300-400.

Thanks for your post!

The armor I buy is definitely either 39% or 38% stun, 90% base - just can't remember which. And the armorsmith I have bought it from had a bunch of suits on his vendor at one time - I bought the last couple. Now he is focusing primarily on the PvP arena and only slicing the 4 basic pieces of armor to achieve 90%. The problem with using only 4 pieces in PvE is that NPCs hit all body parts, not just the 4 typically hit in PvP. Therefore, I really need a full suit, I think.

What I've found from fighting elders is that stun batons HURT! lol Even stalkers and protectors have used them on me, but they are still relatively easy to take out as long as you don't just run into a big group of em. I too used to think force choke was the worst, but now it only drops my ham a little and then I can easily recover. The stun baton is what really does the damage to me. In fact, if I see an elder pull out a stun baton, I run. I absolutely got owned recently by such an elder wearing my current armor. Most in the swordsman profession consider a stun-wielding elder unsoloable. I know I do.

Thanks for your advice!

How is this possible? If a NS hit you for say 1000 pts of damage. Assuming you are wearing a 45% PSG. The PSG will let 55% through. Which is 550. Then your armor get a 50% reduction due to AP=0 of Stun batton which is 275. Then your armor will let 60% of that damage through. Which is 165pts of damage. Assuming you are buff to arround 2500HAM then it would take the NS to hit you a minimum of 15 hits to kill you.

Anyways not everything in the game is suppose to be soloable, bring a friend or two with ya...

1000 points damage with stun baton from NS, 50% dam reduction for AR 1 vs AP0 down to 500 damage, to simplify take 40% stun drops this down 300 damage. Try using some synth steak and this number becomes roughly 100 or less per hit, which is easily taken care of with decent buffs. Really no need to use psgs unless you really want to.
