You need to get a tailor to make them for you in crates.

I doubt you will find to many of those considering the armor padding is the only thing they can experiment on and it really wouldnt help since all the 10 pointers get the 4% base and good encumbrance anyway. Just get any master tailor and you will be fine.

it surtenly matters a lot

I made my last run chest plates with 4,72% armor paddings and had a final base of 69%
and uses on the other pieces a 4,44% and came on 68% tried this last on on chest got also 68%

I'v noticed a cutoff once you pass 86% of max eff on the padding. I have used between 86% and 92% paddings and had zero difference in the final result. I know there is a lurking decimal in there (albeit a small one), but it seems it would be a waste to use absolute premium materials on padding segs to get into the mid 90's when 86%+ still adds 4-5 base.

Good point. Quality does matter, but the difference in effectiveness between the best possible materials, and the worst possible materials is not all that much.

I am master AS and master tailor (12pts both).
I notice very little difference between 10pts and 12pts padded segs.
You get 4% base either way with marginally better HAMs using 12 pts.

I thought the quality of the armor padding segments didn't matter?

It does.
The Base resist of the padding affects the base resist of the armor.
so 4% base padding adds 4% base to the armor, 3%base padding adds 3% base , etc

tailors and armorsmiths need to co-exist i guess. it seems you need them for everything. fiber panels, synthetic cloth, armor padding. *sigh* oh well. thanks for replying everyone

It does not matter that much. You are focusing to much on that small decimal percent from the armor padding when you can just ignore it and focus on getting better resources when you do the final armor combine. I think it is easier to increase your base by focusing on getting a point or two more from each of the other resources and being a 12 pt armorsmith than from trying to eek out that extra quarter point from using uber resources for the armor padding and being a 12 pt tailor.

I use very good, but not the best resources when making these things and have had great results. I usually use hides in the oq+sr 1700+ range and very good plast (1900ish) just because I have tons of the stuff. I would also venture to say that your padding segs are the least important of three areas for getting great base values. Number one is your adv seg resources, and number two is the actual armor resources. You can almost think of the padding as a crafted enhancer that goes into the final combine. The two dantooine bones and tat wool have always been my gate points since this armor was released.

Anyway, my production lines are 80kin/en 72 base, 30stun/80kin/70baseand 39stun/80kin/67base, which are about equal to the best compsites available on ahazi.
