i was reading through someones post about how they questioned players being able to wear the strongest armor 1-2 hours out of starting their character and it got me thinking...


Why isnt there some kind of qualification for armor as there are for guns? i mean... anyone can pick up a gun and shoot it in real life with the same effect - yet we require qualification in SWG for it to be used properly. So shouldnt the same go for armor? i mean, anyone can pick up and wear a piece of armor - although there is nothing really to it - you just wear it. But when it comes down to really complex armor, u should need some certification - i mean, just look at composite armor, see all the tubes, buttons, and all that. Someone has to tinker with that, and not everyone should know how to.


But hey, what do i know?

I read these forums fairly often, but I may have missed it if anyone has brought this up.


One way that weaponsmiths create a variety of weapons is that there is weapon certification. There are a variety of weapons and you can't use some of them until you reach the appropriate level.


I think this is a good idea if it can be implemented into armor. Unfortunately it will mean reworking the entire armor system. I would love to see profession-specific armor that benifits the profession. This means that sony would have to rework the special resists to actually have a variety of them and perhaps even more than 1 resist.


For instance:


A marksman could wear armor with energy special resist (+ other base resists), then when he reaches a specialist tree he could wear armor with energy/heat resist (accomplished using advanced segments).


A brawler could wear armor with kinetic resists (+ other base resists), then when he reaches a specialist tree he could wear armor with both kinetic/stun special resist.


I realize that these mirror what skills the character has, and is not indicative of how he/she will be attacked. But base resists will take into account various other resists, and just the special resists mirror the profession.


The instant upside is there is a variety of armor, and the downside is keeping up with all of the resources.

I think you got it backwards



As a marksman i would want kenetic more than energy, Marksman have skills for blocking shots. Where as when an animal getsclose they butcher the marksman.

Instead of limiting player's allready scant armor choices, why not just generate modifiers to wearing armor in the various combat skill trees.


There is very little to choose from, in the way of armor. I really don't want to have to cert to wear kinetic layered composite.

There are actually6 different types of armor - bone, mabari, chitin, ubese, padded, and composite. There are only two popular types of armor because of resistances - Composite and Advaned Ubese. What I am suggesting is that we vary the protections so that all of the armor will have value. I am suggesting tying them into professions since that's the way weapons are done.


Also, the specific examples I gave are just examples. The concept is tie armor to professions like weapons, have advanced components give an additional special resist in addition to higher % and tie those to the elite or secondary level of professions (you just have to be a novice).

here's the gist: i've recently re-upped with swg after being away for almost a year. firgured i'd give it another go. thankfully, my character is still available along with his experince, armor and inventory items. i get into the game and i'm wearing nothing but my skivvies. when i try to put my bone armor on it tells me i'm not certified to wear this type of armor. that's the first irritation... the second is trying to figure out what they mean by certification and then trying to figure out how to get certified to wear armor i bought a year ago.


any help would be appreciated...

seriously, i have looked this up ad nauseum and still have not found anything that explains armor certification.


help!!!


it's to the point where i'll probably quit again if i can't get this figured out soon.

In the new system only high lvl combat professions allow the use of armor.


There are 3 armour groups: Assault, Battle and recon


Some classes can only wear assault, some battle and some recon. As a general rule melee professions get certified for battle armour. Bounty hunters, squad leaders, and commandoes get certified for assault armour. Pistoleers andRiflemen get certified for recon armour. Pretty much all of the rest of the combat profs get battle armour certified.


The different armours have different specialties regarding protection.

I can't wear anything. Picked up master Scout as part of my respec, and STILL can't wear anything.
According to the info I've seen I should at least be able to wear Recon armor - so what gives? Do I need to go someplace and do something special to pick up armor certs or what ?

This is really beginning to bug me, especially after such a long absence.. Feeling pretty lost here.

You need a novice combat profession to wear armor. All the melee professions (swords, fencer, pikeman) give battle armor cert (except TK which has innate) and other professions have various certs.
