Thread: When should armor be repaired?

I have a question for the armor experts. I know that weapons should be repaired before they reach 25% condition. Is there a similar threshhold for armor? Does armor at 50% condition work as well as a weapon at 50% condition does?

I go with 50% simply because the stats start to degrade there. Also, if it happens to break, you know you got the full usage out of it first.

acually composite which i asume you are talking about starts to lose stats right around 10k durra left,., soo i usally do it right when it starts to drop.. ive repaired stuff at 20k-25k that has acually lost durra,, dont do it before it starts to drop,, you should get 4 repairs or soo if your lucky,, i have had 5-6 but thats rare,. hope this helps

When it gets to 60% I'd look for someone to repair if you're the supersitious type and like a master armorsmith to repair it.

-Yes- I know it's highly contested wether MAS's have a repair bonus, but hey, some still like to have me repair their armor and since I always got a crate of repair kits in my pack I don't mind *shrug*

I am not sure if anyone really knows PaladinX, I usually try to not repair mine until it gets to at least 50%, most of the time even lower.

I hate breaking armor when repairing, so I like to get use out of it before taking the chance.

I only do repairs when the armor reaches 40% condition.

I've done a lot of reading in the forums on this topic, and here's what I've gleaned. I'll state these as facts but consider them axioms, widely accepted as true without definitive proof.

1) There has never been any confirmation from the devs that armorsmiths get any kind of repair bonus.
2) The quality of the tool you use does make a difference. Get the highest functionality rating (99.9999%) that you can. They aren't hard to come by, at least not on Scylla.
3) Don't think about repairing your armor until it is below 50 percent condition. I've had people asking me to "tune-up" their armor that was a 28k of 35k condition. I refused, knowing that the repair could drop condition even lower than it was.
4) Stats start to degrade at 25 percent condition just like weapons. I haven't confirmed this personally, but I know armor at 50 percent still has full stats.
5) A repair to armor with less than 25 percent condition has a greater chance of failing.
6) A failed repair will give you a piece of armor with 1/1 condition. It's useless. Watch out for people unloading pieces like this on the bazaar.

That's all I can think of. Did I leave anything out?

Thank you for all the replies.

My friend had a composite chest plate that had zero condition. I repaired it with "moderate success". The condition was listed as:

-10000/24800. The stats were all -1 for protection. Just for the heck of it I repaired it again and it crumbled to dust (like it already wasn't junk). It had a condition of -37782/1 and all the stats were around negative 2million (I kid you not). Were these values some kind of abug then?

A piece of armor that has zero condition (or anything else for that matter be it clothing, weapon, or vehicle) is ruined and cannot be repaired.

An update as to when stats degrade. I just noticed that the stats on a pair of krayt armorweave gloves I have (think light, low resist composite) were degraded at 5600 of 13000 condition (43 percent). What was 31 percent kinetic had dropped to 28.9 percent, a 4 percent drop in condition. So I'm not entirely sure where the resists begin to fall off, but it sure looks closer to 50 percent condition that it does to 25 percent.
