I'm looking into starting up an armor business on Chimaera server and I was looking for some info on getting started. I'm currently respeced to master on my main, and grinding it with my alt (master artisan atm) to take over.

I'm looking for an investor (I made a post on chimaera trade earlier), but I don't really know how much I'd actually need to get going. My plan was to do the RIS quests and split the return 50-50 with the investor, so obviously I'll need the resources and components for that, but I also need to set up factories, harvesters etc. Obviously this will cost a lot of money, but how much am I looking at? 10mil? 15?

Any existing AS or crafter who can offer advice, or tell me this is a really stupid idea, would be much appreciated. This isn't a half-hearted plea, it's a serious attempt to build a business & make full use of my alt. But I sold all my most valuable stuff to get to this point, so I need all the help I can get.

Thanks.

I just started an armorsmith on the Sunrunner Galaxy. I started w/ about 5 of each medium harvester (chem and metal), and I just bought some more factories to bring me up to 4. I got lucky and joined a guild that gave me some credits to buy resources, I'm going to spend the credits in their mall anyways, so it works out nice.

Anyways, figure about 1mil would get me going easily on another server, starting from scrach. If I was patient, I could do it w/ about 250k. Matter of fact, I think I might try...

Well my plan is to take Imp Pilot, I have 2 toons and my main combat toon can burn through abou 3k faction points in about an hour from taking out tier 3 and 4 ships @ 4/3/3/3 pilot

The down side is (yeah its a rather large one) you will have to grind pilot as well as AS (makes a noce break from the grind though),(and worry about PVP whilst grinding fp in space, althoug as of yet it has not been aproblem)the good is you will not have to pay out the arse for FP from a smuggler , you will have a small but steady income of loot credits plus the income from selling loot parts or if you are doing SW (like me) XP for RE the parts you loot.

The largest drawback to my plan is that I will be locked on to making Imp only as I will have no way of working off the negative Rebel XP........

I started from nothing. Although there is something to be said for starting armorsmithing from scratch (i.e. mining your own resources, harvesting your own hide), it took me probably 6 months before i was able to make quality composite armor that could compete with 12 point smiths. In the interem i sold tons of ubese (it was infinately easier to make). Armorsmithing post-CU is much easier than pre-CU. You may have trouble finding certain resources to purchase (like Plexite Gems), andit will probably take a lot more than 1 million to purchase the quality resources you need. Heck, to make 1000 Primus Layers requires 25K of Neutronium steel alone. The overall crafting process has been dumbed down considerably. Pre-CU, you had to actually experiment with different combinations of layers and percentages to make superb armor. Finding that right combination was enlightening and fun. Post-CU, its a no-brainer. 4 Energy layers for Recon, 4 Primus Layers for Battle, 4 Kinetic Layers for Assault. Biggest problem right now is factory wait times. It takes almost 4 days to make 1000 layers.Thesegments & cores can be made in 1 day. Theymake 249 segments, which make 82 Cores, which makes only 7.5 suits of armor. Myfactories arerunning 24/7. IMHO, because you have to wait so long for the layers, and because you get so few cores from such a wait, its not worth it wasing those cores on schematics to make factory runs of the armor pieces. I have had no opportunity to stock a vendor. 95% of people i'm selling armor to want custom colors. Biggest sellers are Marauder Battle Armor,Tantel Recon Armor & Faction Armor. Invest in some good avian bone for the Tantel. Hope this helps! Good luck!
