Thread: So, I ran into an argument..

Some guy claims he can make 8200 energy layered recon, I said he couldn't, and now he says I don't know what I'm talking about..

I was and am under the impression that energy layers are capped at 1200, and that this is possible only with perfect resources (that don't appear too often, as most people know), and I'm pretty sure that given normal formulas for making energy layered armor, the cap is not attainable. Thing is that this guy is, from what I could tell, not some noob but rather has been around for a long time, and should know what he's talking about.

So what the **** is going on here? Obviously, pre-pub 20 sliced armor could produce these stats, but that's just not possible anymore - or is it?

clicky... I hope...

The guy is full of ****

Energy layers are capped at 100, so advanced cores would equal 12 x 100 = 1200 as you rightly point out. Server Best on Farstar is 97.* to yield 1165 and thats probably one of the best results across all galaxies.

Looking through swgcraft for kettemoor yields server best at 1131. Its possible of course that swgcraft has missed a couple of resources, that would be easy to check using a resource crate if you have a spare hour . The server best plexite (3 excellent plexites all within a couple of points) and alantium ore on kettemoor look very good and its the polymer that is the weak element.

8131 was a calculated result based on the following resources in red:

Polymer Trisoallegau
Duralloy Steel Noigaian
Alantium Carbonate Ore Petarbate
Plexite Amorphous Gemstone Didipacehogaium
Plexite Amorphous Gemstone Epoine
Plexite Amorphous Gemstone Odemiaiam

Didipacehoggaium yields a calculated result of 8126. The SR of Odemiaiam and Epoine (410 and 400) are close to cap and so give a slightly better result even with their slightly lower quality. Can't verify the calculations on kettemoor myself

Yes, of course. I did not take into account that the weighting of the sr is more important than oq, as it is a capped stat - thanks for thereminder

Perfect polymer and ferrous metal would be Q 1000, SR 1000. Perfect plexite would be Q 1000 and SR ~ 431 and perfect ore would be Q 1000 and SR ~ 115. I don't believe that a 100 energy layer can be made with less than perfect resources given the way it seems to scale with the variety of resources I have to hand and the maths that seems to match my obversations. However, I guess its possible that the hundreds of other smiths in all the galaxies have missed something and this chap has been the only one to find out some deep dark crafting secret, possible but very unlikely in my opinion. I definitely would like to see a screenie of a piece of this armor.

So would I. Really. It just annoys the **** out of me, because I was pretty sure I had this figured out, and now I'm having doubts. Especially since I was perhaps too sure of myself, and told the guy a very sarcastic "yeah, right you can"..

I even spent 2 hours going through plexite, alantium and polymer with a resource crate without finding anything interesting at all. Thanks for the time you took to help me with this. In any case it is.. unlikely.. that this could be achieved by normal means. Either way, I'll try to get a look for myself at some of this alleged 8200 energy armor and let you know if I find anything of interest.

Yeah, I use that for a reference as well. Using best resources from swgcraft, I make 8126 energy recon, and I was sure that was best possible unless someone had an ancientspecial, super-secret mystery resource. But going from 8126 to 8200 is quite a step, and it would require all 4 resources to be perfect. Or perhaps I am wrong about that?
Could it be that even if the cap is 100 points per layer, this cap is attainable with less than perfect (1000 oq/sr or whatever the cap for that resource is) resources?

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a customer many months ago who wanted me to make them a suit of comp with 90% everything including stun and when I told them that was impossible they insisted another smith had done it. I contacted the smith later by email and they told me the best stun they could make was 41%, oh well

The only thing I could possibly think of to explain this would be that a critical assembly was obtained during the layer crafting stage that would result in experimented protection values that exceed the resource stats. I have seen this pre CU on stun layers, but it is a very rare result. Also the chap said he has made a dozen suits with this result and that would require at least 2 critical assemblies since a 1000 layers only make enough for about 7 suits.
