As your character progresses through the skill tree, (s)he will learn certifications for certain weapons and armor types. Until your character has that certification, you cannot equip weapons or armor of that type
I love and hate it. Love it because now we will HAVE to make different armor types for everyone. Can't just go straight to comp.
Hate it because now I have to have an alt just to lay down and check my harvesters.

I'm sure this is already being discussed elsewhere, but it'll be interesting to see in which skill trees the armor certifications fall. Will people have to dabble in brawler just to be able to wear light armor? Will artisans and entertainers be able to wear any decent armor at all? Perhaps it will be like the weapons certifications, where you're not as effective using that armor, though you can still use it if you want (I'm thinking a HAM penalty).

That statement says you can't even equip it. That's my main concern. My crafter has no fighting skills at all. That means he gets a cdef and bone armor.... good thing I can makes some good bone armor....

You have no idea how it will turn out. All armors might not me certified. If the Devs have some common sense they let the beginners armors, say up to chitin or even Ubese be free, then have the advanced armors certified.
But yes, it will mean we armorsmiths has to stock more armor types I believe. Composite won't be enough any more.
As a combatant I think the certificates will be good, but from an armorsmith perspective it will be a lot of work to keep my vendors stocked ![]()

May have to have an AS union to make sure all types are being made.

I tried to bring this point up when the notes were posted, but of course the devs passed over the important questions to the fuzzy bunny meaningless ones.
