now that i have your attention, i have a question (and yes i already checked the FAQ and the guide on looted armor components) so here it is: will any component (shards, segments, etc unless it says something like "kliknik CHITIN") work on say, mabari, or chitin armor? my feeling is yes, but i wasn't sure. thanks for your time and help guys. you are lovely.

any component that is a SEGMENT is for a specific armor type.
Otherwise the answer is yes.

Can all lower end armor take enhancers? Cripes I dont even know anymore! Really!

All armor segments can accept one "segment enhancer" such as Janta Hides or Krayt Scales,from basic bone segments on up. The lower-level armors (Bone*, Mabari, Chitin) do not accept layers, though.
* Interwoven Bone Armor segments accept two layers, however this is a looted schematic from the Acklay and practically never used.
