Thread: Gurk king hide spawns/drop rate perfect for RIS

I got a bit bored yesterday while waiting for a factory run of layers, so I headed off to Lok. There's some decent Lokian leathery hide there, and I figured I could stock up for those odd padded orders and maybe even loot a gurk king hide for display in my shop. I've had no interest in RIS up to this point, but keep abreast of it's development here on the forum.

I managed to loot a hide on my fifth or sixth gurk king. From landing on Lok to leaving for Naboo, I spent two hours to get it. With what I learned on this trip, I could probablyloot hides at the rate of oneevery hour or two. This seems like a perfect drop rate to me. Considering thata master armorsmith would requireten hides, ten harrower bones, and ten GDK scales, plus one albatross feather toget the schematics and make a full suit, you're looking at 31 loot drops forthat first suit.Averagingthedrop rate at one per hour and a half, you're still talking aboutover 46 hours of loot hunting. If you want to use RIS layers, it'd bean additional 13-14 hours. Interwoven segments? Even more time.

Another nice thing is thatgurk king hidesaren't exclusive to a staticspawn. With the amount of loot camping that goes on in this game, getting one harrowerbone fragment seems ahuge task, let alone ten.Putting the mobs out in the wild in a similar method to the gurk king spawnswould be a fantastic thing along.

I'm sure some people willsay that it should stay the way it is, but those are likely the folks that want some item in game to display their"uberness" as they AFK sit their toon in front of the Theed or Coronet starport to be admiring by the teeming masses. Even with non-static spawns giving up loot drops at the rate of once every hour and a half you're still looking at more than afull work week to get these components. Heaven forbid you get a critical failure. Having RISbe a feasible yetstill incredibly time-consuming item would open upmore content in the game, which I can't see asbeing a bad thing.

I agree. Its GOT to be made more attainable for it to be even remotely worthwhile. Notice I said "attainable" and not "easy". Hard is one thing. The way it is now is just stupid.

I still say that decay ruins items like this. No one wants to risk damaging something like this now. We need some sort of decay, but it ruins the use of high end items.

Decay does suck for this type of item as my suit is just becoming a showcase item. However the reason I'm not wearing it anymore is because it not only decays from use but also from death. Make it like weapons (only decay with use) and I would be much more likely to use it.

Do we really need another "make RIS easier" thread?

"If you want to use RIS layers, it'd bean additional 13-14 hours. Interwoven segments? Even more time."

Who actually uses RIS layers in RIS??

People keep saying it needs to be easier, they make it sound like because they can't go out and hunt for a day, and have all the components to make an RIS suit, its way too hard. Did you ever think maybe they made it so that this suit requires more than just one person hunting the loot to put a suit together? God forbid you have to take a few days or weeks or monthsto get the stuff together to make a suit of this. It's a challenge, look that word up.

Reading comprehension > you

Even at the drop rate of gurk king hides, a master armorsmith is still looking at more hours than most people work in a week to get all of the components to get certified and make one set. For most normal people 50+ hours is a few weeks of playtime. As for your comment about "one person hunting", for most normal people taking down a GDK or albatross is a group activity.

I could think of a few words to characterize you based on your lack of comprehension, and I doubt you'd have to look them up.

So what's your point? Yeah it may take a few weeks to get the parts, it's rare armor. I'd rather see a handful of people with RIS parts (as it is now) than everyone running around in it.

Again, reading comprehension > you

My point is that even with a drop rateand spawn changes that would yeild one component every couple of hours, it would still take someone whose entire life isn't consumed in a video game weeks of doing nothing but going after RIS components to get one set. I fail to see how changes like those would end up with "everyone running around in it".

The drop rates as they are now are making what could be a legitimate challenge into something more akin to an EQ-style campfest, so that you can go AFK sit your toon over by the bank with your uber gear UO-style, as opposed to seeing people actually using it.

Oh and there is really no reason to attack me with that "reading comprehension" BS.

Yes, there is. Your first post insinuated that I don't know the definition of challenge, and that my post was another RIS whine. All the while, you showed a severe lack of comprehension for what I was bringing up for discussion.

First off, you are lucky to get one that quickly. Besides the gdk scale, the gurk hide is hard to get. 3 hours between spawns and only one at a time, argh. I've killed enough to say the drop rate is more like 1 in 30. I've put in several 9 hour days (3 kills) and gotten absolutely nothing.

Also, the giant dune kimo can be solod. Im a tkm /fencer and do it, although it takes 20 minutes to bring it down. This dang thing never drops any. Kill a albatross and you're almost guaranteed a feather. Albatross does need a group effort though.

I think this was his point. That it should take someone aFEW WEEKSto piece this together, not the4months it has taken for several ambitious people to assembleFULL suits on their server. I haven't even SEEN one person with afull suit of this stuff, although a few suits do exist. That isn't rare, that is mandolorian.

II have enough resources to make about 300 suits of composite, and 400 of Ubese, but havent' come close to the loot to make one suit of this stuff.

Gurk kings spawn from most random lairs. If the lair spawns feral gurks there's a 99% chance it will spawn a king. Thanks for the info in the GDK. I assumed they were tougher than albatrosses and steered clear of them when I've found them in the wild. I'll try taking down the next one I find.

Just an update for Sandsifter... looted another gurk king hide. Got it on about the fifth gurk king to spawn from a random lair. Also killed my fist GDK. Very solable, so thanks for the tip. Of course, no loot there.
